It's not the same when you don't 'hate' the opposition . . .

Compared to last years PF against the Saints or even this years QF against the Weagles, victory just didn't seem to be as sweet. I'm not saying it wasn't sweet but there wasn't the added pleasure of knowing that the Saints supporters, for example, would be licking their wounds all summer.

Sandilands and Pav - great games. Respect.
And the man who started it all, the Schneiderman . . . . .

Perhaps it was the way in which we won it. We were in front the whole night and at times it seemed that only poor kicking and silly mistakes in defence were keeping the Dockers in the game. Although my heart skipped a few beats in the 3rd qtr when Freo made their run, I always thought that we would come away with the win.

And yes, Dockers' supporters don't seem to be the same @@@@wits like Saints and WCE last year.

Can add Bell to that too.

Both teams enjoyed some very very good performances. Main difference was that Sydney got more out of their "bottom" 10 than Freo did. Hard to find a Swan who didn't make some kind of contribution. But then how often aren't we able to say that?

Agreed. The stat midway through the last quarter that Bell had 7 possesions in a few minutes of football was even more remarkable given that the next best of his teamates had 2 disposals. He was going in and getting the hard ball himself. Leadership.

Freo were gallant and courageous, and didn't do too much niggling.
Several times last night I thought "Uh, oh. Freo, Here we go" but the Swans always pegged them back
The Dockers will be a handfull next season

I believe the Swans get a little rough after a break and they proved that in Q1 and Q2 with the mistakes etc. but by Q4 they were back on top form and should go into next week sharp as a razor.
Thanks Freo for giving us the game we needed to meet our mutual enemy

It's probably more the *way* we won than the team we were playing. I mean, how often do we win a final by 40 points and never really look like losing?

Can't agree that we never looked like losing. There were times when Freo could've done more with the momentum they gained & we squandered many opportunities to take it beyond them. The Pavlich miss from in front was absolutely crucial & could've been a major turning point. Quarter 3 was crucial - & it was there to be won/lost by both teams.

Gee when Freo got within 7 points and had a real roll on I had concerns. Thankfully Davo had a purple patch and put us back in control.

Perhaps. Yeah we looked in a bit of trouble at points. Either way, though, I think we certainly looked in a lot less trouble than most other finals we've played recently, which is possibly part of why it didn't feel as "sweet" to some people.

Dockers fans won't be licking their wounds. They will instead take pleasure in having wounds to lick. It is the first time they've made a prelim.

I hope they're saving it for a grand final victory.

maybe because we expected to win?
