Ben Mathews - big game playmaker?

At the ground and watching the replay, I'm impressed by the number of movements that Ben Mathews was involved in and played a big part in our shots on goal.

In defence he played alright on Bell (how good is that short-arse?) but his efforts in attack were good. I had a lot more confidence when he was kicking than I was when Brett was.

There were whole periods when it was Benny Everywhere.

Ball-up Benny was in great form last night. Managed to create many stoppages which gave Sandilands the opportunity to tap or bash it forward.

Thought he was only OK, but then again, I dont tend to notice the defensive jobs player's do compared to the attacking ones.

His problem is giving away free kicks that are just so obvious. As mentioned else where, Bell kicked 3 against him and it should have been 5. I think Mathews was in our bottom 3-4 players last night, but that being said, it was his best game this year.

D'oh Peter Bell is a better player than Ben Mathews. There's a revelation. Fair to say Pav is better than Leo or LRT, too.

I was very disappointed with Mathews' performance on Bell. Conceding 3 goals (should have been 4) to a player who doesn't kick many could have hurt us. I can't remember Mathews beating Bell in a contest.

            You're being kind.

            I think I should post a poll..........

How many hospital handpasses is Benny going to give away in the GF, 1-3,4-5, 6+

Former All-Australian now couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat.

                What happened to his skills?

Windy Sunday afternoon so I decided to watch the game again - and regard it as a Benny cam. From the comments here, I thought I might have got his contribution wrong. But I didn't.

He ain't Buchanan or Tiger but it's amazing the number of movements he plays a crucial role in that lead to a shot on goal. Like Leo, he's also essential for his negating role - and that leads to him being penalised. Especially when you are playing on a star like Bell. But he stops a lot more than he lets through.

I'm not saying he's a star but I can see why he's picked to play, based on his performance on Friday night.
