This doesn't happen unless there are big bucks in it for the AFL. By "big" I refer to the ANZAC Clash as well as Collingwood v Carlton and Essendon v Carlton. These matches assure the AFL of a packed MCG, and do them twice each gives a nice profit. Such fervor won't count for two interstate teams and as such we will have to continue with the 1-2 approach that seems to work ie play once one year, twice the next and occasionally skip the second as only 7 teams can play twice.

With this the case we will most definitely be playing WCE twice in 2007.

There is no use playing this fixture at the SCG due to the redevelopment at the SCG commencing after the cricket so this fixture to maximise the crowd would be better held at telstra stadium.

For memory not many turned up to Carlton vs Essendon this year

It'll be the Eagles in Rd 1 at Homebush. West Coast happy to travel in Rd 1 so they get a home fixture in Rd 22. AFL happy to start the season with a GF rematch. Both clubs happy as Grand Finalists can start the season potentially underdone compared to their opponents who may have had an extra 4 weeks off.

but we haven't had an extra 4 weeks off!!! both teams will have close to the exact same pre-season so that will not be an issue at all.

You've misunderstood me. I mean that should we play, say, Hawthorn in Rd 1 rather than the Eagles, they'll have had an extra 4 weeks in their off-season than us. On the surface you wouldn't think it should matter but the players and coaches of most clubs seem to think it does so there must be something in it.

I DO NOT WANT TO WATCH THEIR @@@@ING FLAG UNFURLING thank you very much!

Make it round 2 or something. It will be great no matter when the game is.

They'll be unfurling their flag in Rd2 - like we did this year.

most likely they would win then, seeing as our starts to the seasons are normally progressive.
