the 1996 side was a pretty impressive side, featuring a star-studded lineup including O'loughlin, Lockett, Dale Lewis, Dunkley, Kelly, Maxfield, Troy Cook, Paul Roos...etc
I think we were the top-scoring team in that year and finished minor premiers.
Not many people remember the McClelland Trophy winners though.
This crop has one Cup and should have had two.
"It's up to the rest of the players in the room to make a new batch of premiership players next year," Adam Goodes, triple Bob Skilton Medallist, October 7, 2011.

Not based on last weekends performance. Don't over estimate the swans performance. They were playing a travel weary West Coast and that's the only reason they got anywhere near them on the score board - They played crap footy.
It seemed to me they and maybe even the fans (at least around where I was sitting) were a little too relaxed. They reality was the swannies failed to launch on the weekend and let possible the best chance the club has had to go back to back go.
I'm not pointing fingers, just really disappointed we let such a great opportunity slip by.

Um, the only reason the Eagles were travel weary is because the Swans beat them at Subiaco. Fans of the luckiest Premiership winners since St Kilda should keep it in their pants IMO.

and the weagles let a travel-weary swans side beat them in last year's grand final

Not quite I don't consider playing a depleted St Kilda @ the MCG in 05 made them travel-weary. Slightly different to Wee-girls playing in Adeliade and then travelling again to Melbourne.
THough the side of the early 1930s only won one Premiership, they played in four consecutive grand finals. However, only one player in Swans history has won two premiership medals with the club, so if we could win it again in the next couple of years, you could probably then call the team the greatest in club history.

The Eagles had a game of similar intensity against Adelaide as we did against the Saints. They faced nothing like the battle we had against the Cats last year.
But yes we were outplayed for the first half of this year's Grand Final. Still it's nice to follow a team that gets to back to back Grand Finals. I expect to see us there next year, too.
