i think i heard on ch 7 that John Blakey has joined the Sydney Swans ending his long association with the Lions. Replacement for Longmire perhaps?

Yep just announced on channel 7 news, not a bad move by the swans.

Very very good player back when he played for the Roos. Underated Half Back Flanker was he not?

There's a "on the buses" joke in here somewhere but the majority of people posting here wouldn't have a clue what I'm referring to.

I am guessing this means our football department is growing, as opposed to him being a replacement for Longmire?

Longmire isn't guaranteed the Saints role yet.

As far as we are aware.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Errm.. that may be all very well for us .. but if it is the choice of remaining an assistant coach with us, or take a senior coaching position with one of the leagues most high profile teams - which one do you think he'll take?

I'll give you one second to think about it.

And according to this, Ross Lyon is also now in contention for Saints senior gig. Article also suggests Jonas' future in Sydney is in doubt.

Very pleased with the Blakey decision. Always seemed to be a thinker on the field and able to get the most out of himself.
