There should be no use worrying about Spider, maybe trade for picks to pick up those who will help us to continue being a force. A window (of opportunity) doesn't have to be small!

Sorry, but the answer is clearly Peter. Yes, hes old, but 2 seasons ago he was all australian ruckman. What we lack NOW is a prime ruckman, we dont need another "maybe" good tall defender - we got that, his name is Vogels, and he aint getting a game so right now our concern is the ruck.

The point is, by the time a draft pick would be ready for AFL footy, it will be 2- 3 years from now. IT will be unlikely that Magic (defnitely wont), Hall, Kirk, Barry - will be at their best. The time is now.

If you dont believe that in a few years time we will near the bottom of the ladder, your dreaming. The system is set up in such a manner that a team will have its highs and lows. Good recruiting can reduce the effects, but it will still occur. Top notch older players will filter out and retire, so younger players come in with little experience with undeveloped/lesser skills(due to late draft picks in the golden yrs (now!)) and we slip down the ladder. Then we pick up some guns, and make sure we hold onto them as we rebuild.

The time is now! Not in 3 or 4 years time. Yeah we want to keep our early draft picks this year for the future, but to suggest an 18 yr old 2nd or 3rd round draft pick would be more liekly to help us than Spida Everitt to gain another flag is.. well - not correct.

Latest I heard was that Saints have offered a second rounder. Which'd mean we'd need to do better (2nd rder + player or [god help me] first rounder.

Stay away Roosy. Too high a price to pay for him. Unless the player is Ben Mathews.

All trades need 3 parties to agree. Surely Spida will hold out to the PSD if necessary unless a trade with Sydney is organised.

Although it's not an encouraging sign if the Saints are serious. It will drive up the price.

Yes yes, I know all this.

My point is that IMHO he would NOT have been the difference to us getting to a flag. There is no guarantee he'll be playing - he's a 32yo crock, with a proven history of recalcitrance and has at no stage demonstrated any loyalty values. He's feathering hhis own nest.

I acknowledge that our requirements are for the now rather than rebuilding; I just don't think Spider would've been the difference last week. He had been towelled up by Cox as well - plus he'd've spent most of the year gone with a dodgy ankle.

A key defender, or a class mfer, is what we need.

According to Roos, Spida is willing to take his chances in the pre season draft rather than be traded to a club other than Sydney.

Yep!! All trades require player consent - and none ofthe GF22 have agreed - but apparently a 2-3 others have said "maybe - though we'd rather stay"
