Jolly vs Doyle

I have no idea how to run a poll... but it seems a hot topic atm is this contest. Providing we secure Spida, we must establish our current first choice ruck to partner him.

Personally, I reckon atm its Jolly. However Doyle has shown something to suggest by round 10 next year, Jolly will be at best a benchwarmer if we get Everitt. Doyle has a heart, he has a go. He can play forward and will throw his body into the ruck. Too often Jolly will try to reach over the opposition and get dominated by a qual ruck opposition.
He doesnt hit to advantage enough for someone who gets the hit outs he does.

But what do you guys reckon? Personally I see a huge future for Doyle, whereas Jolly has hit his potential and will start to annoy with his half arsed efforts in 2007.

If Doyle stays un injured, he is NO 1, Jolly did a good job this year considering the loss of Ball last year. If we have Spida next year we will have a very strong ruck.

Trouble is, the top 4 really dominate him, as he's a fraction too short for them.

We need a beanstalk backup. Doyle is our current option.

It hard to say who is better. Against the top 4 Doyle probably nullifies them more. Against the others, Jolly is a better option.
Both need each other.

Apart from Sandilands, there isn't much difference in the height.

What Jolly lacks at the moment is another dimension to his game besides his tapwork. Cox Lade White can gather possessions around the ground while Everitt and Simmonds can go forward and kick goals. Jolly has to add one of these options to take the next step up.

I would start the season with Doyle as #1 ruck much like the opportunity given to LRT a couple of years ago at CHB or given to Chambers as #2 ruck this year. Give him a couple of months to get up to speed and then make the call. We can all bitch about it for the first half of the season, it'll be fun.

Jolly gives away too many stupid free kicks, especially in the grand final, i like doyle can take a good mark and does his job, providing he is injury free of course

I disagree.. Height isn't everything... I think that Jolly came away with more than his dignity intact against Sandilands who is by far the tallest in the league.

I think one thing is blatantly clear... we are short one quality ruckman.....

Jolly and Doyle are about equal with Doyle probably just edging Jolly with his ability in the forward line. That goal or so a game is what makes a good ruck man a great ruck man see Everitt

If we can snare either Everitt or Gardiner... then we look a hell of a lot taller across the board.

Backline talls:
LRT, Teddy & Leo (At a stretch I'll admit that last one)

forwardline talls:
Doyle, Everitt/Gardiner rotating with Jolly.

Running talls:
Goodes & O'Keefe.

Now that is a lot of marking power in one team whan we haven't even discussed Hall, O'Loughlin & Davis.

Doyle could become one of the top ruckmen in the comp.

Can tap to advantage.
Can go forward to snare a goal.
Has a big heart.

Can he stay injury free? Let's hope so - I think he could be one of the most important players(up there with Grundy) in our next charge towards a flag (whether that is next year, or 2010)
