    Pluggers 1300th. 1999

As a result of spending too much time stressing about the 2006 GF, having watched the 2005 GF twice this week to remember how it felt, and the talk on this forum of the magic of Kells and his boys, I decided to dig out my video of Pluggers 1300th goal game.
Gee, it doesn't seem that long ago but when you see it.....
Willow, Schauble and Davis are all in the Collingwood team. Davis and his hair do is worth a look on it's own!

Bruce Mc, 'wonder caller' on channel 7, says early in the first quater "He's a promising colt that Goodes". Mmm!

Not to mention the magic 1st quater. Who said the Sydney crowd isn't passionate (about a winner anyway).

Real reason for my post is, even though I was at the match can't for the life of me remember what round it was in 1999. Can anyone help?
Also, a player for the Swans who was playing that day that I have only the vaugest memory of, Campell no. 40. Can anyone jog my memory about him and what his story was. I had been a member and fan for many, many years before 1999 and can't seem to remember him at all.
Does this say more about him or me?

    I know, I know. Don't go there.

From memory Campbell was a reasonably ordinary player, with only slight showings of potential.

      Rd 9 or 10 wasn't it?

And Freddie Campbell was thought to be a real find until he upped and walked out on the club, then turned up at St Kilda and then still did nothing iirc...

I met a family in Bali 3 years ago, we got talking about my love of the Swans. A few weeks after we got back I got an email from them saying they would like to send me something I would like.

It was a massive print taken by them of the ball leaving Pluggers boot as he kicked the 1300th goal, and to top it off it was signed by him. They were Collingwood supporters who just went to Sydney for the game, and fluked a brilliant shot.

I very quickly got it framed and it holds pride of place in my office.

            Thanks for that.
Phew, doesn't seem my memory is that bad after all. Doesnt' seem like Campell was that much to remember.

Anniswan, I also have a fantastic photo from that day. A man who sits behind us at the SCG was desperate to get a shot with his camera and asked if he could get in front of us to take a photo( my girls and I are on the boundary). Of course we let him and he was so grateful he came back the next time with a 6x10inch colour print as thanks.
This picture is of Plugger at the end of the match on top of someones shoulders (can't see who for all the security guards). Plugger has his arms in the air with the ball in one hand, a huge grin on his face and champagne shooting high into the air.
            Magic!!

mal michael was playing on him as well - nah he didn't move onto greener pastures

from memory he almost kicked one off the ground in the square and bruce was barring up everytime the ball went near the great man

and IIRC the goal was on the quarter time siren so it worked in well with the crowd invasion etc.....

Yeah, the one Plugger almost kicked off the ground was quite comical. He could have just bent over and picked it up to kick a goal but he did a big, what do you call it - airy? and nearly fell over in the process. The wry smile said it all as he had just dropped a sitter of a mark about 35m out a few minutes before. They all had ants in their pants.
Back then I was such a goody two shoes. Could have just leapt the fence, it was right there in front of me, but no, I stayed put in my seat!
Don't know how many supporters were on the field but it was a great spectacle.

Me too! I regret it now. I was kinda torn. Plugger said he didn't want us to run out, meh, I should have just done it! I reckon he was just worried someone would elbow him in the face.

                        You certainly don't.
He would have to be the most imposing man to have ever played wouldn't he?
Just watching him run at the ball or at an opponent, kind of like a Rhino bearing down on you. He was quite fast for a man mountain.

I have vivid memories of that game.

That was the year my husband left and I was so devastated I ended up in the psychiatric ward as I was a danger to myself. The staff knew I was getting better as I wanted to be out to watch Plugger kick his 1300th. The thought of watching it with all those loonies around made me very determined to lie to get them to think I was better.

So it was my first day out and it was great to see. It could not have been better with Kelly kicking it to him.

One of the greatest days in Aussie Rules history. I remember driving to Geelong fom Melbourne in Round 8 when he had 12 to go...he kicked 6. Then I caught a bus to Sydney against the Eagles in Round 9..he kicked 3. Then caught the bus again in Round 10 to see history made.

The atmosphere was indescribable. I managed to get on the ground just as he kicked it. I got close to the scrum but all I could see was Stefan Careys nude and rude nut!
