    vs Essendon....circa 2000

Does anyone remember when we played essendon at the scg in 2000, and we had more or less all our big names out (except micky who was on fire, and Stafford!!! (haha!!!))

We were 'in' the game until the end, but there was a free kick given on defensive side of halfway against one of our youngsters who was running into an acre of space on the wing for running too far......

Does anyone remember who that was???

Can't remember who it was. Just remember Schwass putting us back in front during the last quarter. Hird and Lloyd just stepped up and beat us.

Micky kicked a massive goal from the boundary with the game in the balance too....

But the free kick (which turned the game) has stained my brain....

The loss the year after was worse. We led all day, then the bombers came storming home.

That one has stained my memory of Kelly....took a great mark from 25 straight in front, missed went down the other end for a goal.

Alessio marked with 4 seconds to go and sent us packing.

As I recall, 2000 was a very average year for us??

                  Won 10 games, lost 12, finished 10th

Lost 6 games by 9 points or less

So could easily have been a good year

It was a superb performance from and undermanned swans outfit. The Bombers were invincible at that point and IIRC it was neck and neck all throughout but they just got away late in the last quarter.

Yep, they tried their guts out, would have been the upset of the season without question if we had got up.

I believe the Kelly incident you are thinking of was where the ball was kicked into the man on the mark. Bad mistake really as you pointed out. A 12 point turn-around.

Also, the game in 2000, i think it was raining all day up until 3 qtr time and during that period i think we played a disciplined type of football until after 3 qtr time when the Bombers skill level without the raining pouring took over.

I seem to remember Nicks being captain for that game!?!

Thats not a bad site...I have narrowed it down, but I cant be sure. It was either:

                          Andrew Bomford
Gerrard Bennett (pretty sure it wasnt him)
                          Crouch
                          Goodesy(!?! - dont think so!!)
                          OConnor
                          Feast
                          Fosdike

Dont remember most of those guys from that time (as in positions....) any of them HBF??

.......hhmmmmmmm.....I think it was Simon Feast.
