Roos - sucks to work with?

Think about it.
You're an assistant coach who has helped your team to a grand final game ... twice.
St Kilda sacks their coach.
Assistant coach ... "Mmmmmmmmm.... wonder what my chances are at being "the" coach? Might toss my hat in, see what happens."
Now, I'm on the StK board with a list of names in front of me. TWO of Sydney's assistants want the opportunity to move further up the coaching career ladder.
I'd be a damn fool if I didn't pick one of them. My hardest decision is, which one?

I just hope Horse has taken it on the chin and continues to perform greatly for the swans.

The decision for the assistants to take up opportunity elsewhere (when the sun in shining in their backyard) is no way indicative of how bad or good a manager or coach Roosey is.

This is just football. It's a natural progression.

Agree.... The Roos/Swans game plan is a constant evolution.

Whilst i think we were more flaboyant in 04 and a better specatacle to watch, we didn't win the freaking flag with that. Let's not talk about 04.. call it an aberration. 05 was just Roos and the boys giving the AFL the ultimate f@ck you by winning it after they all said we were @@@@... (Don't you love being right)... 06 was a bit of a hybrid of 05 & 03. Stoppages with controlled disposals.

What comes in 07?? Who knows but our record speaks for itself... We start crap every year and are always about 30% win rate for the first 8 or 9 rounds.... And that's purely because it takes our boys a while to settle into the new game strategy...

Then it's like... whoa baby.. hold on.. here come the Swans again.. And don't we just love that!! It's good to peak in September instead of March like Collingwood & Richmond.....

As far as the reason for our assistants leaving??? Well senior coaches come from assistant coaches... But I don't see to many people chasing down Carlton, Essendon, Hawthorn & Pt Adelaide assistants and asking them to head their team..

I wouldn't necessarily call Ross Lyon leaving to take on a senior coaching role and Jonas moving back to Adelaide primarily for personal reasons as "jumping ship". One of them has made the choice to further a career, the other has made the choice based on a request from his family.

I'm sure alot of people have been more than happy in a role, but an opportunity to good to not look at has come up and once offered you'd be crazy not to take it. As for family - in football circles we've regularly seen a desire to move back to where your family is.

But yes, losing two assistant coaches is a concern. There is bound to be some disruption while their replacements settle into their job. And then we have to hope they are as capable as Jonas and Lyon. Interesting.

I talked to Jonah about it last weekend and he was very open that his wife wants to go home so he was looking to see what he could find there - I also think he said something about his kids needing to settle into one school but I didn't note it down and I've forgotten. But it was a very happy coaching group on the night and he was saying it to be apologitically as a "sometimes you have to consider family needs, too".

Horse, on the other hand, was just looking forward to taking that massive step up to senior coach. I bet he's not happy. But there's a good chance that a few opportunities will open up next year. But would you take the Blues or even the Bombers? And a vacancy might open up over in WA if Freo don't jump out of the blocks pretty well, too. (At least we expect our team to start like crap - though we did sack Eade mid-season.)

The fact that our assistant coaches are in demand is a reflection of the swans' success. Not too many carlton or hawthorn assistants are being headhunted. In simple terms, other teams want to have the same success we are having. Common sense business tactics.

Plus why is it a need of some people in this forum to critically analyse everything Roos says to the nth degree? Seems like a personal grudge by some - any opportunity, dissect what he says. The english language is such that you can make it mean anything!! Deflecting attention, **!!**@@!!

Probably true, but I just can't cop the inflammatory and divisive dribble that comes from the usual suspects (the 3 of them know who they are). Most people who use this forum want to discuss issues, games, players etc but the usual troika use it to bitch, moan, push personal agendas, bag the club, players and administrators, everyone, and attack the group that have finally given us some respect and success, and then defend themselves because they are "real" supporters who have made 8 million posts.
They have got to be joking.
