    Stewie Maxfield - appreciation!

Sorry if this is old hat or not newsworthy but

You have all heard the QBE ad.... where Roosey says 2 players came in 1995..... well there was 4.... the other two were Maxfield and Dyson

I reckon Stewie made almost as much impact as Roos and Plugger ( OK almost?).... became captain, consistent performer IMO unlucky to miss out on B&F and apparently the originator of the "Bloods Culture"

Often overlooked I just wanted to say... I for one was a huge Maxfield fan and hope his recent frustration with his role does not deter from continued service to Swannies

Good on ya Stewie.... your football exploits and contribution is not forgotten!!!!!!

No, MAxfield played in the Grand Final of 1996. He and Dyson came together (Dyson from Melbourne) and were a very strong midfield combination. Shame Dyson chose his off-field career but them's the breaks.

        Was that to me or?

        Plugger, Roos came for 1995

Maxi came from Richmond for the 1996 season. - he was part of the Tigers 1995 finals and never played under Barassi.

Did a good job at the Trade table this week and spoke well after. Still much appreciated by me.

Thanks you are right 1996... could have sworn it was 95...
I will be less irritated by that part of the ad... even though I had no right to be as they can't name all major recruits.

I always sensed he reluctantly moved from Richmond, but never lacked committment on and apparently off the field.

Anyway back to more current topics.

I post very infrequently... I'll make my next better researched and relevant

ah ok I took it you meant he came in end of 96 rather than end of 95. sorry!

It always seemed to me that Stewie was thrown into the captain's role after Kel because he was the best man for the job but didn't really want to be the spokesman for the club. He's certainly not a show pony. However there is not doubt that behind the scenes he was - and still is - one of the most influential people. I think he's the heart of the team - but I think few people who don't follow the Swans would even remember his name.

It's good to see that he's still working so closely with the club - and makes sensible statements when it's in the club's interest. With him doing recruitment the kids will be in no doubt of the work ahead of them if they join the Swans.

I appreciate you Stewie - and one of my most cherished photos is of you and I holding the cup aloft on Grand Final night last year. Let's do it again in 2007.

yes, like this thread a lot. Stewie - to borrow the Kirk expression - is now a true Red and White person. As a fan, I give him my thanx.

                    I agree whole heartedley.....

He is and was an inspirational leader for us and continues to be so... His impact to this club should never been forgotten.

And for the record.... I have cried at four AFL games....

                    1. When Kelly retired.
                    2. When we lost 2003 preliminary final against Brisbane
                    3. 2005 GF when we won for both joy and and sorrow when Stuey was there but didn't receive a premiership medal.
                    4. 2006 GF when we lost and when Stewie went past in the car before the game...

                    Thanks Stewie....
