    Who cares! I say: Revenge!
I think WCE is becoming a new Collingwood of the AFL. Everybody will hate them, because they are so overrated.

Cans of tuna in the supermarket are evidence to the contrary. They are a predatory fish but we hunt them.

As to the Swans and Eagles: The Eagles will be the team everyone wants to beat because they are the reigning premiers. The Swans will be up there too, but we are in the same class as Adelaide - a good side but not reigning premiers. So we won't spend as much time in the crosshairs as the Eagles.

            We'll never be the Hunted.....

Time and time again we deserve to be the favourite's team going into a competition, yet we are always seen as the outsiders. 2007 season and the premiership as a whole will be no exception.

I quite like the fact that we're always getting written off by every commentator and "expert" week in, week out. That way they never see it coming when we crush them.

05 & 06 were identical in this regard. No one even thought that the Swans were a chance until half way through the last quarter in the GF.

Again we will start about 5th favourite for the flag in 07. Somewhere behind Eagles, Crows, Saints and probably even Fremantle now!!!

            Bring it on.....

Really? How many times? Which seasons?

Well in 2006 we started about 4th favourite... somewhere behind GEELONG as I recall..... I would have thought that we would have been entitled to at least equal favouritism....

But I am fairly narrow minded like that.

Maybe.... But we still won more than we lost, surged our way through the finals and held up the cup on that glorious day. So maybe we were a little less lucky than most thought, and a whole lot better than everyone thought.

That's not really "time and again" though is it?

Well we've never been flag favourites in any year during the home & away part of the season or the finals....

Even in 96 when we did win the minor premiership, we still weren't favourites.

And even in singular games are we rarely rated us short priced favourites. i.e. When WC played Hawthorn they were about $1:08 the win, whereas we were About $1:40. Big difference.

Part of the reason is that we are underrated, but part of the reason is also we don't impress consistently throughout the season.

No one could possibly be expected to predict a flag for us in 2005 based on our form for most of the year. Similarly, although there was some argument that we should have gone in at finer odds in 2006, our form in 2005, except right at the end, didn't really suggest we were going to be able to repeat.

In 1997 and 1998 we were near favourites for a short while until we dropped our bundle.

In 1996 no one expected us to keep on winning, which is hardly surprising.

What other seasons could we be possibly considered as premiership favourites?

Well in 2003 we weren't that awful either....

But it wasn't so much a reference to premierships, more of a reference to the Swans as a whole, including the home and away season. We are rarely, if ever, seen as a dominating team that is going to smash the bejesus out of the opposition.

And really we were going to be considered flag favourites at any stage in 2003...

Given what you said and its context, I assume you were talking about being flag favourite before or during the season. I still think it's not surprising that we will rarely, if ever, be the favourite.

I'm pretty sure we were favourites at some stage of 1987.
