Why is it that we get labelled as "flooders"????

I'm so bloody sick of the media and the footy community who blame us for flooding - is it just jealously that we're going alright and play a tough brand of footy??? or is it true - is roos a dirty flooder????

Have you seen the way it rains in Sydney? (when it does rain of course)

Why don't they mention the inventor of such rubbish in Terry Wallace? Imagine if HE was coaching our club, we would be ridiculed beyond belief!

None of the other teams flood, they get numbers behind the ball.

We are the stoppage kings, others play tempo footy (although basketball crap was probably quote of the year).

We only give free kicks away because we are hard and tough scraggers, others are "a bit stiff" about 1/3 of the time.

We demand low scoring tight contests, ask Richmond if we can score heavily when the opposition doesn't try to FLOOD AGAINST US. (That Richmond display was tactically the worst performance I think for a long time)

The bottom line is we will never have genuine recognition for our achievements in the Melbourne based footy media, and will never have credible, informed footy media in Sydney to offer a balanced assessment, so things are unlikely to change in a hurry.

So true. Huddo and Walls are the worst offenders.

Sydney floods and the other 15 teams "push numbers back into defence".

I don't recall the word "flooding" be used any more about us than any other side this year.

I think now everyone does it, we are just better at it, so they can hardly bag us anymore.

The flooding term was a parting gift from Rodney Eade - and even he said it was completely misunderstood in his time at the club. While his meek attempts to re-badge the tactic a mid-field press came to nothing, the flooding term - and the derogatory connations that go along wiith it - stuck.

It is now simply part of the lexicon of fans who hate Sydney. Opposition supporters love to generalise. We're bandwagoners who flood in the same way that all collingwood fans are all on the dole etc etc. Means nothing.

That said, I've noticed finally this year that some of the worst offenders in the media have begun to button their lips a bit, thank God.

It's amazing what two GFs in a row will do for perceptions.

Exactly ... it's a Rocket thing, and it's all now a part of our chequered (sp?) history.

Yeah, it certainly encourages the paranoid perceptions of Swans supporters...
