Stephen Brassell bailed me up at a function not long after and told me thay received the correspondence but the general feeling was the players were too attached to their own numbers and wouldn't warm to the idea. I'm not sure if that 'general feeling' was of the players or the office staff who kicked the idea around over lunch.

In this age of multiple captains I think it could again be considered. The captain of the day wears #14 and reverts back to #1, #21, #31 the following week or whatever it may be.

Feelings??

Players have to keep the same number the entire season... They cant swap and change depending on who is capt!!

Oh please ... at least ONE great of the game wore #4 for us (the one before the current in case you forgot).

#14 should be saved for the brownlow medalists.

GIVE IT TO GOODSEY.

It was mentioned to me a month or so ago (when we had this discussion already) that all I need for a winning Lotto entry is for Goodsey to have four more jumper changes!

Goodsey has played 150+ games, won two brownlows and a premiership in #37 so why would he want to change?

Malceski is a good candidate.

Personally I just wish the club would get on with it, hand it over, and don't make #14 any more significant than being another number which in the past was worn by a couple of great players. Between Skilton and Kelly I am sure there were some very ordinary players who wore #14.

That was the whole point, the number is irrelevant to the players who who wore it. One champ, one chump. One Brownlow, One Premiership.

Is there a limit to the number one can wear.

ie: could we see a Swans player wearing #69.

I like the way you think. I believe 77 was worn by someone but can't remember who. Robert Mace of St.Kilda wore 60. 63 1/2 would be interesting, LOL!!!

IIRC Mal Brown wore 100 for one game in Perth. I don't know what the point of it was, but then it was Mal Brown.

I'm fairly certain that Jon Ballantyne wore 0 (zero) when he played with Footscray (or Collingwood). He then went to the States to pursue an NFL career.
