    Delistings

    Delistings will happen today.

Looks like they'll be more extensive than any of us have predicted.

I don't have a link yet so can't post - but a media list sent out by the Swans says the following have been delisted:

Matthew Davis, Andrew Ericksen, Earl Shaw, David Spriggs and Josh Willoughby.

Just clarifying that Chambers is also a retirement.

I am very confused by the extent of the delistings. How can we let 3 ruckmen go? Were Spriggs and Willoughby not worthy of at least another year on the list?

This leaves 5+ spaces on our list and we don't exactly have great draft picks to fill them.

I can only assume we will pick some of them back up again?

Spriggs, little willo and Garrubba in particular are very important to the ressies team ... and I don't understand why we would lose 2 ruckmen when our game plan is basically "the more the better".

Bizarre stuff. I hope most of them get picked back up :/

Looks like we are banking on drafting some gems with our picks in the superdraft, or perhaps targetting someone in the PSD.

It also makes Pick 15's prospect more interesting. Ruckmen such as Renouf will now be in the mix.

              Still shocked at Shaw's delisting.

I am really surprised that Shaw is gone. Seems crazy to me given issues with Donk's ability to stay on the field and the fact that Everitt has what, two years max.

As for Spriggs, I feel for him. He never really got an opportunity. I think he will picked up by another team. Curry seems to have something too, so probably the other surprise.

As others say, perhaps will be redrafted.
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.

Willoughby will definately get picked up by someone and hopefully gets the opportunities that we sadly didn't give him. He was good enough IMO.

Definitely agree about Willoughby. It's disappointing we didn't give him a chance. He'll probably be at the Crowbots or Port next year.

I have a sneaking suspicion that at least one of the delistees will be redrafted. It seems like the club is trying to keep its options open as far as the draft goes and to do that, you need extra spaces on the list.

A little surprised that they delisted BOTH Shaw and Ericksen - would think with Doyle's history, you'd still want at least one extra ruckman as backup...

                      I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

But surely that's a good reason to let him go - he's earnt the right to try elsewhere. Worked well for Fixter this who got plenty of AFL when he almost certainly wouldn't have got a game with us again this year.

Don't know enuff about the youngsters but personally no suprise to see Spriggs & Willoughby let go. Good luck to them if they do get another chance.

Shaw is a big surprise. Given he was a rookie in 2005 could he be redrafted as a rookie - given the limit of 3 second year rookies?

With the 2 retirements, 5 delisted, 2 rookie elevations that gives 5 places available on the 2007 list. Also, O'Loughlin and Barry are eligible to be listed as "outside veterans" that could leave 7 spots available on the list.

Either Ricky Barham and Paul Roos think the "super draft" is really deep or I suspect that a couple of delisted players may be re-drafted. I wonder if they think it builds a players determination to succeed if they are re-drafted ala Buchanan.

                          Cheers

I assume there will be an element of that given we have to draft a minimum number.

If we can get players like MOL and Goodes with draft picks in the later rounds, I wouldn't worry. In the year of the super draft, chances are one or two rough diamonds will get overlooked as everyone scrambles for the shiny stuff in the early rounds. The Swans have a talent for finding such rough diamonds with later picks and polishing them into good players.
