    Jake Williams

Carlton announced they wouldn't be going after Jake under the father-son rule so does that mean now we are a big chance of getting the kid or would he rather join another club in victoria?

If Carlton out of all clubs passed up on him i wouldn't think we would take him up!

What needs to be understood with Carlton is that they have a number of father-sons eligible to be picked up in this years draft

Tomi Johnston - some of Wayne
Sam Sheldon - son of Ken
Jake Williams - son of Greg

All three are fairly similar in style, so to take all three would require them to use all three of their first three draft picks

They can take one of them with their third pick.
A second would mean using their second pick - pick 19.
To take a third would mean using their first pick - pick 1.

So effectively they are saying they wont use a first round pick on him..a pick that is thought to be used for Bryce Gibbs

We would only have to use our 3rd pick for Jake Williams.

Sheldon (the best of the three) isnt nominating for the draft this year.

Carlton do not consider Johnston or Williams good enough to use a 3rd round pick on, and neither should we.

Williams will probably be rookied at best

I seem to recall his father being called 'not good enough' too. I've seen him play - he's slow but got great skills and finds plenty of the footy.

Yeah, like Carlton are a great club when it comes to drafting !! Stealing, purging, poaching, buying and snatching definitely, but terrible at LEGITIMATE drafting.....

Jake WILLIAMS is a WILLIAMS, son of GREG WILLIAMS. I say take the boy under father-son.

                Beat me to the punch!

Alot of players are slow to kick start their careers off - The Swans always seem willing to give a kid a few years to progress - So who knows?

So what - do the names David Round, David Bourke, Tom Roach and David Walls mean much to you?

Sons of champions that couldn't cut it at AFL level.

I'm not suggesting that we don't draft Williams Jr if he has the talent, but to take him on the basis of his family name is ridiculous.

I haven't seen much of him, but the concencus seems to be that a 3rd round pick is over the odds

Yeah, I could name another 20 sons of champions that couldn't cut it at AFL level as well !!

G.Williams and G.Ablett are the only footballers that could make the ball talk in my opinion (ie. magicians with a football). One of Ablett's boys is already a star, the other is raw but will make it. If we take the approach of the Ablett boys, then surely J.Williams is a future star in the red and white.

Round, Bourke, Roach and Walls were very good to champion players in their own right, but weren't magicians of the football who made the oppo look silly when the puck was in their hands like one G.Ablett and G.Williams.

C'mon, Greg Williams was innocent every time - it was the umpires that were wrong.....

The champ should have won four Brownlows - two at Sydney and two at Carlton. The year that he gave David Grenvold from Essendon a love tap to the chest, received three plus three from a suspended sentence he was flying and would easily have won Charlie.

Interesting to see if he is rated a pick 49. for Sydney , instead of a 35. for Carlton. This is one area where we are at an advantage in the f/s rule

Hopefully if we're up there again it can be a bargin pick for us to pick up Daniher for a late third round pick also.

P.s. Williams had about 15 possessions in the first quarter of the GF.....like father like son ...BALL MAGNET!

Have to agree with some of the previous comments....

A name is worth nothing... We should recruit based on their ability, not their ancestry. If we can use the father/son rule to our advantage and get someone we want, so be it, but I don't recall the rule being compulsory!

And while his father was a good user of the ball and always played well, there's no doubt he was a dirty player.... Reminded me a lot of a certain bulldogs player that doesn't deserve mentioning....
