All Club Changes in Full
This is an urban myth, and a bit of a silly one-- as if you'd draft a player who wasn't up to it, and pay over the odds for him (by spending what was then a 2nd round pick on a father-son) on the promise of getting first dibs at his youngest brother who is all of 13 years old (as Trav Cloke was in 2000)!
However, like so many urban myths, it's twisted from something that is actually true: when Collingwood wouldn't give Jason Cloke a game in 2005, daddy dearest implied that he would rip all 3 boys out of the club if favourable selection decisions weren't made. A threat that is looking a teensy bit hollow now.
I wonder whether the number of players involuntarily delisted in 2006-- not retired or transferred-- is an all-time record (since maximum list sizes were introduced). It's 67 by my count, which seems a whopping number when you bear in mind that there have been 26 retirees as well, and every team is only required to create 3 spots on the list a year (and 16 x 3 = 48). To counterbalance, though, clubs have finally realised the power of the rookie list (something that Sydney's been well ahead of the curve on). 21 rookie list promotions is probably an all-time record, too.
With the delisting of 2 youngsters (Lucy and Obst) who were taken in the 2005 draft as well, methinks that many clubs are believing the 'superdraft' hype, and clearing the decks.
