International Rules, Irish claim victim status.....again!

I have to admit that I didn't see all of the game, but when I saw highlights on the news, it appeared that with just 2:17 on the clock an Irish player dropped both knees into an Aussies upper back or head. It was then on for young and old. Yet the Irsish are still trying to blame the Aussies for the blues that went on from that point.

I am happy to be corrected, but doesn't this smack of hypocrisy with the Irish seemingly starting the violence and then claiming that they are the victims?

In the first game undoubtedly the irish were more physical...I don't know what happened....maybe they thought what they were doing was 'tough'...today, the Aussies just took it to another level.

The Irish know...it's probably just yet another media beat up....we'll see in a week. I personally think the Irsh were unprepareded for what they saw today. I don't know an Australian in Dublin who didn't think today was going to be a walk over. Considering we lost last week that's a big calll...but it was a uniform consensus.

I think this could see the end of this silly rubbish.

The Irish are pretty upset, and from what i have seen (limited) over the last two years, you can hardly blame them.

It is like beating your little brother up in the back yard.

Today it was like watching the reserves playing the senior side.

Can't beat him in the front yard anymore ... DOCS would be after us!!
They're just a pack of sore losers (again). The Aussies put on double speed last year (to match the irish run), the poor little nancy irish boys said we were too tough and too fast. The Aussies did it again this year. We're just better than them.
Can't have your cake and eat it too.

It ceratinly doesn't appear to be one-sided, it's just that the Irish got beaten at the game they attempted to play.

It's become a silly exercise I reckon, if the aussies take it seriously, the irish complain because they get flogged and beaten up. If they don't, the AFL come down on them for not valuing the aussie guernsey. The team sent over for the series was almost devoid of any "stars" of the AFL (swannies excepted), mostly guys from middle to bottom Melbourne clubs who are mainly just 'good' AFL players, yet were so far ahead of the amateur irishmen, that it can only result in this type of outcome. Ilove the idea of an Int. series and like the concept for the game, but until the Gaelic players are full-time pros, it will not be an attractive series.

The match seemed to be played in a poor spirit.

And don't forget the AFL players are professional sportsmen, while the Irish are only amateur and have jobs as well. Hence, we are going to win out in the fitness and physical stakes.

Makes you wonder if they will continue with the concept, it's all getting a bit ugly.

Simply the Irish in most cases are not up to the physical side of the game. Really can't see how the series can continue when there is such a difference.
Maybe a combined team from the secondary leagues around Australia. NSW/ACT AFL,VFL,SAFL etc

The idea has merit Glenn, but no-one will watch it (not that I think many watched it at dawn this morning).

An Australian had a knee in the back and ROK was headbutted and was actually bleeding. It definately wasn't one sided.

You would have thought they were innocent given the carry on by the Irish coach. He really was a tosser. "Poor us, it was horrible...blah, blah, blah".

BTW the knee in the back would have gotten him a couple of weeks in the AFL.

Saw the Irish coaches interview after the match and you would have thought the Aussies were wearing balaclavas and baseball bats the way this tool was carrying on. He might want to remember that it was the knees in the back from an Irish player that started the whole thing.
