I would have thought anyone elected by the members by definition would be a "supporters' representative".Originally posted by Annie Haddad
What happened to the idea of having a "supporters representative" on the board.
I agree that the members got it wrong last time but this is a good move."As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk

Last time I checked we were in fact a football club. To have 2 former players and captains (and one a coach) in Quade and Kelly is entirely appropriate. To refer to the latter as having "little relevant experience" is ignorant of what the purpose of the club is.Originally posted by Bear
Yeah a good appointment. I felt she was a far more appropriate condidate than a popular ex-footballer with little relevant experience.
Have a look at our constitution, and revisit the Objects and Powers of the Club. I would think with many of these, only Kelly and Quade would have any authority on.
This is not Qantas or AMP. Our output is football, our return and financial success is dependent on the quality of that output. The board is responsible for the appointment of the coach. We therefore need appropriate people on the board who understand football. I would argue that Paul Kelly would have more "relevant experience" than most in that regard.
All that said, I see on the Swans website that his name isn't currently listed under Board of Directors while the new Director is.

Don't put words in my mouth mate. Being a former footballer does not rule you out - far from it - but in Kelly's case he did not have the political skills or board experience to be a success.Originally posted by Bart

There is a difference between a good player and a good administrator. This was proven by his very early exit from the board.
And your point about football being critical to financial success... Well you obviously didn't learn the lessons of the 80s. Off-field success (financial and administrative stability etc) leads to ultimate on-field success."As a player he simply should not have been able to do the things he did. Leo was a 185cm, 88kg full-back and played on some of the biggest, fastest and best full-forwards of all time, and constantly beat them." Roos.
Leo Barry? you star! We'll miss ya, ''Leapin''.Comment
