The public likes to see a lot of things, and they definitely prefer goals to ball ups!
I finally watched the replay...my thoughts

Nothing could be more boring. At least the way the 05 and 06 grand finals, plus some other games in recent history have put a premium on goals so when you score you actually feel like cheering.
I really don't see the problem with having games where the final score is between 50 and 90 points a side. I'd rather have that and players having to show some heart then the shootouts of by-gone eras. But the AFL seems to have got it in their head that big scores will reel in the cash, and so continues to try to make the game "free-flowing and high scoring". Well, basketball is like that. Look how good their crowds are in this country.10100111001 ;-)Comment

I'm amazed how many people comment on basketball who seem to have no idea of the game!

I will never watch the game.
I re-read a match report from The Age a few weeks ago and it had the effect of making me nervous, angry and upset. If I watched the game I fear I'd be in danger of jumping off my third floor balcony."As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk

I watched it for the first time a few weeks ago.
I was actually surprised by how close it looked on the TV, with neither team really dominating for long stints, and the scoreboard leaning healthily in the Eagles favour early on purely due to our own errors. At the game I remember it felt much more like we were going to get pummelled once they got a roll on.
Since watching the replay I feel much more stongly that we let a great opportunity slip. But I also recall feeling a lot more positive about our effort when I was at the game, because at ground level I felt the Eagles looked a lot better than us and deserved winners. Strange.
It has fired me up for next year though, and I strongly believe we continue to have a great shot at another flag. Our Greatest Moment:

Yep - if J Bolton and Hall had converted even half of their regulation set shots in the first quarter then I reckon we might have pumped them by 5 goals.Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

Have not been able to watch it properly. Saw a few snippets of last quarter in between my fingers which were covering my eyes.
Was on the phone for 45 minutes last night getting my BigPond account/AFL.com.au fixed as it would only show me the first quarter of each game. Finally got to see the last quarter of the first final we won by a point.....that made me feel better.
I can now live in my own fantasy land that says Barry Hall kicks 5 goals in a final and Mickey gives it to the Eagles cheer squad. If only it was the one that counted."The Dog days are over, The Dog days are gone" Florence and the MachineComment

This thread made me remember the medal presentation at the end of the game. How Ben Cousins was called up to help Judd lift the cup and how he was swinging his arm in the most toolish way possible. What a tool!My Pokemon brings all the boys to the yard and they're like "Wanna trade cards?"
"Damn right, I wanna trade cards. I can beat you, I've got Charizard!"Comment

Caught the last qtr of the replay last night on Fox - first viewing since the day ... still can't believe we lost.
One question for anyone there on the day ... did teddy collapse because of exhaustion after his kick out of bounds on the full in the last 5 minutes? Or was he concussed?Comment
