    Membership question?

Ok this may sound strange but I'm hoping there is someone out there who can answer this question!

I've just moved from Sydney to Melbourne, and yesterday took out a Melbourne membership for 2007. I'm letting my reserved seat in Sydney go obviously. When I rang up and paid for my membership though, I was informed that I lose my current membership number altogether and get a new one because Sydney and Melbourne members are on totally different databases. Now it might not sound like much but I'm actually pretty peeved - I have a 4-digit membership number (i.e. pre-bandwagon! ) and have been a member for 13 years, but all that gets lost in the system because I've moved interstate. Does anyone know if they just "suspend" my sydney number or do they reallocate it to someone else altogether?

I reckon that is fair enough. Just write to the Swans and surely they can keep it somehow...

If not, you could always change your Sydney membership to the cheapest membership available and keep your member number against it.

Send an email to Myles, Wardy said he always responds.
      Bring it on!

I know what you mean. I am with a credit union that I have been with since it's second year of operations. My number is only four digits and people are always blown away that I can remember my bank account number.
The institution has undergone many mergers etc.in those 30 years but I've kept my number for which I am grateful....especially with Alzheimers looming.

The Melbourne office are very helpful. Bets of luck.

See I'd thought of that, but I'm only going to make it back up for 1 or 2 of the Telstra matches, which I get in my Melbourne membership anyway, and I can get hold of tickets to the SCG matches I plan to attend, meaning I'd be forking out somewhere over $100 by the looks of it for a membership I wouldn't use. When I renewed yesterday, I asked the person at the Melbourne office specifically about keeping my number and they said that because of the different databases, I'll just get allocated the next number in the list of Melbourne memberships, whatever that may be.

I was thinking of emailing Myles, but I'm sure the club is so busy right now he'd not be too fussed about something like that - there are bound to be more important things to worry about for him.

Swans supporter packages are pretty cheap aren't they? Isn't there one that is $60 or so? You can never have too many fixtures cards or membership card plastic wallets...

Ahh that's what I'd thought but do I get to keep my number for that?

And now that I have more space to live in, I could do with some more Swans stuff around the place again! I'm sure a plastic wallet will look fabulous on the door to the study!

We have changed our membership a number of time, most recently from full club members to country members and the kids went to junior supporters (no game entry). I have not noticed a change in my number - not that it has ever been that big a deal for me so I have not taken much notice, but I am almost certain that it has stayed the same.

                  Not a real fan.

Dont try and ring the sydney office about membership issues as they say they cant help you out ,you have to ask the melbourne office if you come from melbourne.
Now this is a thread that i would expect on the ego -centric, wank session that is redandwhiteonline.com...

We left Sydney in 2001. (My husband and I were members in that year, but not my daughter). In 2002 we became Melbourne members with new numbers and let our Sydney memberships go. In 2004 we decided to get Country memberships as well as our Melbourne memberships and I asked for our original Sydney membership numbers - they gave them to us. In 2007 we are moving back to Sydney so changed to Premiership club memberships in Sydney, again with our original numbers. My daughter is also coming back to Sydney (after living in Darwin and OS) so she has joined again. She was last a member in 2000. I asked for her original number and they have given it to her. So obviously they keep you on file and do not allocate the numbers to anyone else. Hope this helps.

Nice! Thanks for that Anne! Might still ring and confirm but sounds as though I won't be lost after all! Thanks so much!

LOL - As a Melbourne member I find this pretty funny as we get a different membership number every year, so if you plan on staying in Vic for a few years, don't get attached to the membership number that they give you in 07!

You serious?! That's just weird! I guess it stops people saying "I was there before the bandwagon" hey?

I still can't understand why they have 2 separate databases altogether? How hard would it be to have 1 database with a field for "Melbourne" or "Sydney" etc if they're that worried about mailouts etc!
