I don't think there'll be a lot of sympathy for the Blues' plight from other clubs, mainly because of the way they've conducted themselved in the past. Particularly on here - it was 15 years ago when Carlton danced on the Swans' grave, problem was that the Swans weren't dead.
There's a very real risk they won't survive in their current form. With so many teams in Melbourne, it's getting harder for all of them to compete with non-Victorian powerhouse clubs. To pin their survival hopes on a development of a ground that won't host any games is a high-risk strategy. If it doesn't come off, they'd be doomed.

Wow, this is BIG news. I have a long memory of the contemptuous way the Blues acted during the Elliott days, so I can't say I am as sympathetic as I would have been had it been say the Dockers or Bulldogs in this sort of malaise. I know the pain & anguish of following a club on death's door, so I CAN empathise with how their supporters are suffering. But unlike our situation where we were shunted north with bugger all groundwork in relation to the infrastructure of the game & the club, it was Carlton and the way Elliott & Collo mismanaged the place that has led the club to be in the position it is now in.
The fact is we'd have had Carlton playing away matches up in Sydney had the Victorian clubs voted to stop supporting the AFL pumping funding into the Swans back in 1991. The only reason it was knocked on the head was the fact that A) Allan McAllister kicked up a stink about Carlton getting the advantage of two 'home grounds' & B) the other clubs saw playing the Swans as an easy extra 8 premiership points each year.
I honestly think that Carlton are scaremongering so as to sweeten up the AFL into helping them out of this problem. But if their problem is really THAT bad that they can't go on, may I suggest they look at being pro-active THEMSELVES about ensuring their club remains viable going onto into the future. That may well mean looking into
-playing matches in the short time in Canberra Tassie or the Gold Coast
-looking mid-long term at relocating to either Canberra or Western Sydney
-as painful as it is, looking at merging with the club up the road North Melbourne.
The fact is, as many of us Swans fans already know oh so well, there is scant all chance of a city like Melbourne being able to support 10.5 AFL teams forever, as much as their fans may testify to the contrary. If Carlton have to look at moving to keep the proud navy blue jumper alive, then maybe they should look at that.
It is just so weird to see Carlton of all clubs in this position. I grew up with Carlton always not only at the top of the heaps but with arrogant & patronising fans players & club officials.
I wonder how many Blues fans are like that these days.

It appears the situation at the Blues is really complicated & has a lot to do with member elections. apparently a group were scaremongering people into voting for their ticket on the board.
Read this for a better understanding of what is going on here.
Straight from the horses mouth:eek: Carlton says it's in trouble Mark Stevens January 30, 2007 12:00am CARLTON is in a more perilous financial state than a dying Fitzroy and at risk of being merged or shipped off interstate. That is the blunt assessment of the Blues' own finance...

Everything said about Carlton at the moment should be viewed in the context of the power struggle going on with the Board.
Princes Park is a huge financial problem - the AFL were talking about taking over the lease at one stage, not sure what happened there. But they've botched their future perhaps terminally through their own arrogance - they should be as strong financially as Collingwood and Essendon, instead they are being compared to Fitzroy."As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk

And I thought North Melbourne were up @@@@ creek, Carlton have a lot on their platter. I wouldn't be surprised if a merger or new team in the AFL is introduced in the not-to-distant future.I only support one team: The SYDNEY SWANS!!!!! :adore

I don't think they'll ever evaporate away into thin air. I seriously doubt any team will dissappear. Most likely scenario is a relocation. ACT, Tas and Gold coast appear th emost likely options.Comment
