    Traditional defense #1: quote revision.

"If I get hit by a bus tomorrow clearly John Longmire in my opinion would take over straight away and we wouldn't miss a beat"
    becomes:

run along quite nicely without his input for a reasonable time
    and

    less hassle in a reshuffle
I look forward to the "you don't know what question was asked" defense next.

I dont think that quote means this at all...

I think the first quote means the JL knows his job well and Roosys dont forget JL is only a punt away from a senior coaching role.
Now this is a thread that i would expect on the ego -centric, wank session that is redandwhiteonline.com...

then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

Again. More evidence that Roos dislikes responsibility. Why is it that everything Roos says gets construed by the RWO majority in a favourable light while anything just about anyone else says gets interpreted with suspicion or vitriol? Why does he have so many apologists?

what about the evidence that he likes responsibility, such as fitzroy and victorian captaincies and taking on the position of senior coach.

the term apologists suggest that he has something to apologise for, which he doesn't. he attracts support from me because he and his style and methods deliver results. i think he projects seriousness and humility in his conduct while maintaining a sense of perspective. he's a crap media performer and tends to make ambiguous statements with a dose of sentimental rhetoric but i still don't see why others spend so much energy judging him by what he says in an environment he's clearly uncomfortable in rather than by his performance in the environment in which he is clearly comfortable.

i guess we'll find out how the players feel in a couple of autobiographies over the next few years.

No the term apologist means "a person who offers an argument in defence of something controversial." Source

well, i stand corrected. however, i still stand by my statement in principle - he delivers yet others bitch and whine as though he doesn't. tall-poppy syndrome? perhaps it's just that others see with certainty where i see largely ambiguity in what is reported in our famously rigorous sports journalism.

BTW is there something wrong with your shift key?

I think Cow and Mr Lobster need to consider that it's Roos who has taken the time, thought and trouble to set up this highly desirable state of affairs.
Disliking/dodging responsibility? I don't think so. I think we are watching a gifted administrator at work.
Narcissism? I don't think so either, except for the healthy variety. From my admittedly limited perspective Roos seems to need less narcissistic replenishment than most people; I see him making hard choices (can pull people into line when required) and I can't say I've ever seen him fishing for compliments in any of the public statements I've seen. I think we need to be careful about making amateur diagnosis outside the consulting room.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)
