Seven and Ten had it also. Will be a great night at the lovely North Sydney Oval.

And on 7 Mick M backed up Paul R's criticism of the new hand in the back rule.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

i think mick was actually the first out of the gate to slam it: on either the day it was announced or the day after.
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

I don't mind Kevin Barlett generally. I certainly enjoy his commentating.

But he seems to have got his argument a bit mixed up while trying to defend the Rules Committee against suggestions of undue influence by the Commission.

"We don't get any advice from the AFL commission telling us what to do," Bartlett said. "In fact there has been at least two occasions, when the majority of the committee voted to throw the ball up instead of bouncing it, that our recommendation was knocked back by the commission.
OK Kevin - so the Commission doesn't try to influence you, just ignores you and does as it pleases? Not exactly a watertight rebuttal of Malthouse's (and Roos') claims.

Of all footballers bartlett should know how frustrating it is to have rules changed to combat how they play. After all the holding the ball/man rule was originally refered to as the "Kevin Bartlett rule".

Too true. He was the master of throwing the ball out in
front as if he was bouncing it, then throw his arms out as
              he was tackled.

Both Bartlett and Baldock deliberately threw the ball out in front of them to win the free. When you bounce the ball you expect to get it back, hence you are deemed to still be in possession.

It was correct to tell the umpires to interpret the rule as it was meant to be.

Just on that rule, Skilton would do the opposite, he would bounce the ball and run into a pack to get a free.
