Rumor on 3AW this morning - Carlton want Roos?

Rumor mentoned that Carlton are preparing to make an offer to attract Paul Roos, next year, very sketchy details but they do have a big backer in the new president who is prepared to put his own money in.

No doubt this will please some on ROW......

He tells us he's "not a career coach" so I can't see him going to Carlton.

LOL - they'd be better off putting together a large package to lure John Longmire. He might think about it - though I suspect the politics and infighting at Princes Park would be enough to have most coaches thinking hard before taking a job there.

God I love rumour and speculation.
        That's a doozy.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

            Pfft.......

They'll go through 16 club preidents, 11 club captains, 72 board room splits, 54 losses and two other coaches before Roos is even off contract.....

That's the only Roos they can afford at the moment.

Putting aside the small point that Roos has said he can't see himself coaching anywhere else, how can the Board of Carlton possibly contemplate such a move when the club is wallowing in enormous debt and signing Roos would involve buying out the remainig 2/3 years on his contract??

The Blues thought they were buying instant success when they lured Pagan away from Arden St. This seems to have backfired big time

It must be their game plan...buy a successful coach...oops forgot about the players.

Not that Roos would leave Sydney for Carlton, Carlton now don't have any debt.

A group of six wealthy supporters (incl Pratt) have pledged to wipe the debt and give the club a slush fund to get it back to where it was.

So money ain't the issue anymore.

I am not surprised that they want him, but I would be surprised to see him go. He has done a great job of creating his own mythology but he still has much to lose. Expect to see him finish off his contract at Sydney, have a couple of years doing something else, and then let someone beg him out of retirement for mega bucks. He is a good enough coach to make things happen anywhere he goes imo. A couple of years out of the scene would be his best asset. Let the game stagnate then come in and fundamentally change it again.

Don't they already own (part of) the Roos?

i don't know if it backfired as such as it was after pagan was hired that they lost their draft picks, got fined a million dollars and discovered they were 12 million dollars less financially well off than they thought. he's at least got fev and whitnall into shape.
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know
