.... it's when you only have two players in shape that you're a certainty for the spoon.

How many spoons did they win (or came very close to winning) under him?
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

the spoons were more a result of losing important draft picks a few years ago rather than an inability to coach.
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

        I'd dispute that.....

I've always been of the opinion that Pagan is not that much of a coach. Sure he coached the Kangaroos through to win the 96 & 99 grand finals, but have a look at who he had playing for him.

That is two very handy forward and back lines. Not a bad midfield either!

Do you mean insofar as it's been almost a week since either one made headlines for offensive behaviour?

Incorrect..... Fev was on ACA this week with his "wife"......

(I used quote marks as I'm not sure how to correctly demonstrate the loose term in writing)

so are you suggesting that frawley or rhode would have coached these teams to premierships?

pagan may be past his prime now (imho anyhow), but to suggest he has never been a good coach is pretty ignorant.

I wouldn't have thought coaching was something where you had a "prime"???? I would have thought you either know it, or you don't. It's not like you have to maintain peak physical condition.

So if he's past his prime... Then perhaps his prime was never that much in the first place???

So you ARE agreeing with me then..... Thank you!

No I dont agree with you as your reasoning is simplistic and obviously flawed.

Pagan has been coaching at VFL/AFL for over 25 years and it is extremely difficult to maintain the same level of enthusiasm and motivation for that length of time. Especially in a role that is extremely stressful and emotionally draining.

He is approaching his 60's and it is natural for people's energy levels and ability to decline as they get older.

Plus if you hadn't noticed the game has been evolving rapidly in the last few years in terms of rules and tactics. In my view old school coaches like Mlathouse, Sheedy and Pagan dont appear to have adapted as well as some of the younger generation.

So yes I do think he has declined from his prime coaching years

No doubt this will please some on ROW......
That's pretty funny. You wonder who starts some of these silly rumours.

And I don't think he has declined all that much at all. The difference is the teams. Rule changes occur nearly every year so that's hardly a valid excuse. However, not having more than a handful of players worthy of playing at the elite level probably is. When he was coaching the Kangaroos in the mid to late 90's he had the cream of the of the AFL crop. Whereas now, the opposite is the case. He has the ugly end of the @@@@ stick and it reflects in the team performance.

I don't think anyone could do a lot with the current Carlton list, but a lot of people probably could have done a lot more with the Kangaroos list he had (But yes, you're right, not Frawley!). Point is, he ain't all that, never was, and given his current performance, should be shown the door.

I just emailed my cousin's hubby in melb, hes a massive carlton supporter asking him to keep his mittens off Roos and this was his reply...almost wet my pants laughing at the last bit:

"Won?t happen. Pagan has a contract until the end of next year, so no doubt that will be honoured. Also, coaches never get poached these days.

And why would Carlton want Pagan out? We?re a chance to win ANOTHER pre-season cup!!"
you know what they say, dirty pants- clean botty
