just give it to somebody, anybody and be done with it. in fact, let's give it to the biggest dud we can find in honor of all the duds that have worn it before. funnily enough, that idea might get bevan as much support to receive it as he was getting two years ago.
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

Not Bevan, but another Dud. I thought it should go to a ruckman next, someone that could never be expected to be a Kelly or a Skilton, someone that however good they became they could never really be compared.

Why are there so many pessimistic people in here? there's nothing wrong with a number having a little tradition behind it, do we always have to throw a negative, cynical spin on things? Giving it to Mal could be a great idea, aslong as he doesn't feel any extra pressure from wearing that number.

You shot down a good argument with your last sentence. Giving the number 14 mythical proportions is going to do that to any one who wears the number in the future.

number 14 has no more tradition than any other. yes, it was worn by two of our greatest players but they were nobodies when they were given it and it's been worn by a whole bunch of others who were far less than great.

the tradition that number 14 is part of is that it's usually worn by a senior player. that's what should continue and what is being delayed while people wait for somebody "worthy".

                let's get on with it.

Not neccesarily. It could give whoever wears it, an added sense of maturity, responsibility, which can be a good thing for a young player.

I'm going to plead oblivious to this.

                      Who is Mal?

Benny Matthews really kicked on when he took on the famous No. 4.
