    Going Off Early

I have grave concerns in the change of tact with pre season tactics this year. Unfamiliar to recent years when players have been gradually brought back and with the no rush policy we made 2 grand finals.
This year the coaching staff have opted to bring all fit senior players in early and be ready to play the Eagles in Rd 1.
The Eagles always are ready to go from the start with their great depth. We will be beaten easily in rd 1. My concern is the management of the players to last the season!!

You seem to be contradicting yourself.

By taking the pre-season seriously for a change, Sydney are merely doing what has worked for West Coast and Adelaide in the past few years. If senior players are 'fit' they should be building up their match fitness and getting touches in match conditions. They are not being over-worked and have been training since November anyway.

In recent years we have started that process too late IMHO and suffered as a result. There are relatively "easy" points to be picked up in the first month which is why its so frustrating when we have dropped winnable matches against Essendon, Port etc.

I don't see anything that is pointing towards a heavy loss in round 1

      What change?

I don't see any change in the approach or timing of easing senior players into practice games. For the last couple of years, most have been back in by the last and penultimate practice games.

The round one loss against Essendon last year has me worried!

WC have never won at Stad de Oz, and havent won in Sydney for donkey's ages. Havent even got close to us on local soil.

Swans would be pretty confident of beating them since we now have one of the best ruck divisions going around, which was always our weakness against Cox and co.

Lets also not forget WC have a culture of booze and excess. Post a grand final win, that will only be exaserbated, which we have already seen. It wouldnt suprise me if WC have a rather large premiership hangover this year... in more ways than one.

In 2005, didnt we beat Hawthorn by 100 odd points in round 1 ?

            63 actually.

There is also the wlwlwlwl ratio that continues against WCE. It's our turn to win this time.

The build up looks identical to me apart from injuries differing here and there and if anything they are being more precautious with Crouchy.

The Coast are not exactly in peak condition either, so we should go head to head well.

We are flat and it will be interesting how the coaching staff and players refresh themselves and get back on track.
                          cheers

I find it hard to accept that professional footballers can't 'get up' for 22 matches a year, then hopefully finals.

Anyhow, I'm sure the leadership groups will sort it out
