How important is Crouch? (merged thread)

It seems that he may be available for round one, but my reaction was just a mere shrug and move on. Am i underestimating the man Aker labels a 'nuisance'?

Very. His negating skills and the pressure he applies is vital!

I think you are. If he can get under Aker's skin (and a lot of others), he must have something. But I think he has more than that. His pace is phenomeonal and his determination, second to none. I wouldn't say he has the skills of a Davis or a MOL, but a hard, fast and unrelenting and uncomprimising player.

I for one will be very happy to see him back.

And, BTW, I think the term Aker used was "serial pest" & "cheat"

I am very happy Crouch is back. May take him a little while to get back to his great playing. Aggressive all the time.
So if he can play this week - its a plus for the team and supporters.
          Love those Swans

Crouch is a slow starter back from injury. He'd have to play very well against Port to be considered for the WC game.

He's a nice to have, but I wouldnt be rushing him back.

there is no question about his importance on the team, I have almost no doubt he was the difference in the GF last year...

I honestly can't wait to see him back on the field again....being a pain in the butt to all and sundry

How would we know? This is his first "return" from injury in his career.

Not quite true. He broke his collarbone in Ireland and would have missed half a season had it not coincided with the off season. So his return in round 1 2005 was a 'comeback' from injury as he spend most of the pre season on the sidelines (and yes I do recall he struggled a bit).

I rate him when he's fit. He sucked last year because he was selected even when he was obviously injured. When he's fit, he's easily in our top 10. A "shock return" to play in round one is just a shocking return to the behaviour that caused him to miss the end of last season IMO. Give him a few more weeks to get right.

When I think of Crouch, I don't really think of his defensive pressure, I picture him steaking through the middle delivering well into the F50. I know he has great defensive skills but I can't really remember any incidences of them, probably shows how well he was doing his job.

I picture him racing through the centre and then delivering poorly with a tumble punt.

At his best he was fantastic for us. However, I have a feeling that he's well past his best, and hence I wonder how long he will be in our top 22.
