It's a an old police tactic to bust people.....
When they pretty much no someones's doing something illegal, how they did it, when they did it, who they did it with, but can't prove it. They do this sort of thing. "leak" this type of info to the media (or air it on Crimestoppers), meanwhile, two weeks before they have obtained a warrant to phone tap and bug the suspect. Then, whammo!! The story hits the news, they panic, get on the phone, go see their accomplice, or say something in the wrong place and guess who's listening and watching the whole time.....
