    I guess I don't recall.

I managed to see the whole game. So just some prelim notes:
Simpkins - He has an outstanding future ahead of him. He is strong in both attack and defence, great vision and isnt selfish with the ball. Makes good decisions going forward. Looks more of a midfield type player than a forward, cause I dont think the radar in front of goal is quite as sharp as in general play.

Laidlaw - Was quite prominent in this game. Had good positional sense and made good decisions going forward. Needs to be a bit stronger on the lead.

Rowe - had a quite first half but exploded in the third quater at FF. Took some strong overhead marks and finished well in front of goal. Lead hard all day. Very agile for a tall man too.

Schmidtt - Looked really good till they took him off. Racked up a lot of early possessions and fed the forward line well. Looks quick too.

Schneider - Moved well which was the most important thing. Was clean all day but lacked a little bit of polish sometimes which is to be expected.

White - Played up forward and down back today. Looked a little lost downback - trailed his man in quite a few times and struggled to get front position in contests. Up forward he led hard and put together two good goals early in the first half.

Doyle - Was a little disappointing. Wasnt a big feature in the ruck today with Rowe doing a lot of the rucking too. Looked slow.

Thats what I remember, may have missed a few things though. It was a good game, a fairly easy first up win for the boys.
And the man who started it, the Schneiderman, can kick his third for the quarter. And the swans are in the Grand Final!

          UGG's report is telling.

Positive - Schmidt has plenty of touches and reads the play off the ruckman
Negative - Jude Bolton doesn't read the play off the ruckman and never has, cant kick, slow reaction time etc.etc.etc.

Positive - Moore is lightening quick with his hands and agile
Mathews - No skills, will not handpass when tackled or potentially tackled, slows down the play and I dont mean play tempo footy, no vision, cant kick, slow thinker

Surely it must be time to make these logical changes. Get these blokes in and leave them there. Enough of this carp about fighting their way into a top side. We wont be a top side for long unless we inject youth into the team (now decidely older youth).

What we lack is a couple of extra players to mix the dynamics up a bit to break up the flooding that WCE did and get extra run and carry. I am sure these 2 guys would do as well if not better at stoppages. The only stoppages Mathews gets involved in are those caused by his own ineptness.

I'd like to see Laidlaw, Schmidt and/or Moore into the seniors on a more regular basis this year.

I'm sure Doyle rucked most of the time and Shaw was his backup. I don't recall Rowe ever going into the ruck, he started down back and switched up forward in the second half. I do agree with your assessment of Doyle though, he can get the tap a lot of time but it just doesn't go to advantage.

Rowe went into the ruck very late in the game when Doyle had an early mark from the game to ice up a knee. Doyle had the ice off it when he went out to the centre to congratulate teammates at fulltime, so wouldn't be too panicked by it.

BTW, Not much mention of Keiran Jack. He was brilliant mopping up in the back half.

For those who saw the game, what about the hit Jack put on some poor unfortunate soul who tried to tackle him ball and all when Jack received a hospital handball from a teammate. Jack just braced himself and flattened the guy, took off at speed, passed to a forward and goal. Second qtr from memory, just great stuff. I really reckon we need to get him on the list.

                      Video here:

but the conversion to youtube's video has made a few of them quite unwatchable. Rowe's contested mark is probably the clearest of the lot. There should be 8 videos in total but some haven't been processed yet. Be sure to check bcak later.
