McVeigh - Any Improvement at all????

Is it just me or is JM playing about the same standard of 2 years ago? I think he has no defensive skills and cannot kick under pressure. Not to mention missed set shots. I thought he might step up to be a very good midfielder but last night showed how far off the mark he is. Happy to see me wrong but how long do we keep him in the side or am I over critical.

Last night only 15 possessions in a key midfield role. Kirk 29, Kerr 28, Judd 27. Lets not to mention Jude with 10 who was very poor last night.

I was just about to start a new thread. He was really terrible.....absolutely destroyed by Judd (including actually tackling him on to have Judd wriggle free and send the ball into the fifty) and poor disposal....plus shocking kicking for goal. Really, really terrible. How can you train full time for five years and then run in from thirty and STAB the kick???? I would have missed too, but at least I would have kicked the bloody thing! That absolutely infuriates me.

I really would give Schmidt or Simpkin a go (or Jack if you want a tagger). Seriously, I would have thought Jack would have kept Judd to fewer possessions..

I think you've gotta give him a few rounds. How many minutes did he play on Judd last night? That guy was on fire and no one was going to stop him.

would have been nice to have a guy called Crouch available to handle Judd. McVeigh is MUCH improved on two years ago when i would get nervous everytime he got the ball. HE got nervous everytime he got the ball hahaha !!!!

he is another midfielder who is very poor on the set shot in our side, one of our major flaws

he at least has some defensive side to his game as against Bolton. Trouble is he has always been a defensive midfielder. Give him a go as an offensive midfielder to see how he goes. His problem seems his brain says he needs to take about 5 steps to dispose of the footy and he is just a tad too slow. Mind you he called for the footy on his wrong side so it takes you longer to balance and dispose of on your wrong foot.

Players need to learn to run to their correct side whenever possible and their team mates need to know if they should be passing off to players on their wrong side. Some you can, others you would never give to on their wrong side. eg if that was O'Keefe he was in the perfect spot to have a shot.

That doesn't really excuse the errors he made away from Judd.

                  True.

Maybe knowing that he had to face Judd at times made him nervous the entire match though.. as you can see i'm pulling at straws here.

Oh well. I have faith that there will be alot of improvement this year.

i will be the first to admit last night was a shocking one for McV. But really, once you could see he was struggling against Judd why not change the matchups?

Nat - I think you've gotta give him a few rounds.

because last night may well have just been a hiccup and he will be on fire for the rest of the year (and I think I am the only one on his bandwagon)

... by the way I realise Nat already answered your question

I wasn't thinking about dumping him, but my question was more to the point as to why we need to give him a few rounds to play some good football, rather than from the start of the season (and I can point to most Swans players in all recent seasons on that too).

My apologies, in that case it is a very fair question!

Against Judd and Kerr we looked really slow. We've known our midfield is slow for years, so dont expect much. This is why we play goodes on judd. We are basically conceeding on Judd.

McVeigh should be able to turn it around next week. I too am disappointed in his growth. He looked a real find a couple of years ago.

We need couch back and firing.
