Dempster needs a game where he gets monster stats to wake him up to the fact that can get to the next level. In his defence though, he is used primarily in a negating role.

I think he's had that part of his game coached out of him.

You occasionally see flashes of his capabilities...but he is a very disiplined player. For him it's about his opponent first, team second, self third.

As you say I think he has the assets to be a superstar, that is, if he had a role like Goodes's for example, and time to develop - he'd shine.

Maybe if Crouch gets back to form and LRT comes back he can get released to a midfield role to use those physical attributes.

Yep, why not try him on the ball for a while.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure Dempster has the footy brain to be a really good footballer. Once you take the physical attributes and even foot skills as given, that is what really matters. Malceski instinctively knows where to go to be involved in the play - seeing him completely rip up a few reserves games in past years (45 possies, multiple goals) made that evident.

Dempster is going to have to have that coached into him I suspect. He's essentially an excellent athlete with a very good kick playing football, rather than a natural footballer.

You may be right, but I'd like to see that really tested to see.

I thought Buchanan was a standout in our midfield. He seemed to be the only Swan willing to take the ball out of the congestion rather than drag it back in. His evasive skills close in must rank among the best in the league.

He's been doing it for 2 seasons at least now.

Still steams me that he didn't win the Norm Smith in '05.

The more you watch that last quarter the more you notice that Buchanen had a hand in almost everything that was crucial.

Yes Judd had a great first half but just like LRT, when it came down to someone actaully changing the course of the game to win it, Buchanen was the one.

Also grates on me that we don't have a Norm Smith Medalist amongst our team.

Fozzy of Buchanan should have won it in '05, but the poster boy needed another medal. Kirky was also unlucky last year.

He did have a mate in Fosdike, he to was able to get the ball and get it out.
