    Bazza?

How serious is it when you have a hyperextension of the knee? spoken to others online and my mates and some have blown it out of proportion going on about how Hall is out for the season when we don't know much about whats actually happened to him. I on the other hand think that we will see him play against the Lions next week.

Roos said after the game that he was a 50/50 chance for next week.

Some players can injure different parts of the knee doing a hyper-extension i believe. Some can be out for the year as they may rupture ligaments others may only 'jar' it in a way. Hall was lucky in the sense he hasn't done any damange to the ligaments and he may only miss a week at the most. Thankfully

Wow, the Roos influence must be working well on RWO - I was expecting way more hysteria on here after the pre-season dramas of barrykneegate.

Has he been sighted by anyone (at recovery etc) since the game?

Appears confirmed it's a medial now.

Remembering what Goodes went through a few years back will we see Bazza parked in the goal square for the rest of the year??? And what for half forward. Vogels??? White?!?!?!? Could the reborn Micky O hold it down??

Exactly! May I start the argument? Yeah why not?

Background: Apparently Hall insisted he comes back onto the ground after his injury when he approached Roosy. Roosy then told him he could as long as the doctor (Gibbs) thought it was ok and no further damage could be done to the knee.

My Take on the matter: It was painfully obvious to anyone at the ground (even those of us that aren't medically qualified) that Hall was playing with alot of discomfort. He would continuously clutch at his knee after landing on it or hobble around for the rest of the time. It was ludicrous that the decision to come back onto the ground should be left to a player that is emotionally involved and obviously feels like he still can contribute to the team (regardless of whether he is a senior player or not). He was simply too emotionally involved to give an honest and unbiased assessment of his knee. The coaches were right to take him off, especially as a precaution but also more importantly as he seemed like a liability to the team and simply could not contest (even as much as his big heart wanted to) even in the most innocuous situation.

There should be an injury policy that does not allow a player (regardless of who he is) back onto the ground when he is playing in obvious discomfort.
It was simply too big a risk to continue to play Hall in a Round 2 game that could have prospectively put him in doubt for a much longer period.

It reminded me of the incident when Stafford hyperextended his knee and Goodes was the only person on the field who could ruck for us. SCG versus Norf...great comeback...can't remember the year. Goodes played his heart out....but anyway I digress.

Stafford wasn't right for ages after that if ever. Hopefully our medical team's knowledge has improved and Bazza can get back soonish. I would be very surprised if it was next week, but I have been wrong before..lots of times.

The problem is that there simply can't be hard and fast rules about injury management beyond allowing the doctors to have the final say because each player responds to each injury in a different way. Just because a player looks as though he's in pain, it doesn't neccessarily mean he is (e.g. it could be more a paranoia thing - reaching to the injured area every time just to check on it rather than it actually hurting), and likewise, just because a player doesn't look as though he's not in pain, doesn't mean there is no pain. In Barry's case, they were right to let him back on because he passed the mini test that they put him through and he LOOKED fine. That clearly wasn't the case but they had to try him. Also, apparently he'd had a jab and that took some time to kick in, meaning that he might have looked proppy for 10 mins, then been fine after that thanks to the needle. In the end, I do think they may have left him on just a little too long, but they had to see how he went first before making a blanket decision

Fingers crossed it's just a MCL strain and he'll be back in a week or so!

                  according to the Terror

There were fears Hall faced a long stint on the sidelines, but tests last night showed a minor ligament tear.

Swans medico Dr Nathan Gibbs even rates Hall a fair chance of playing next week.

I asked this question semi-seriously but guess who I ran into at the local shopping centre this morning?

So I asked him, "how's the knee, Baz?" "yeh, fine mate". And it did look fine - he wasn't limping at all. Expect to see him line up this week.

Goodes' main problem was a posterior cruciate injury. I think he got a medial strain / tear in the other knee later that season but it wasn't what originally caused him a problem.

How does this fit in with the Bloods' code??

Hall=Dickhead for coming back onto the ground IMO,i have suffered many a ligament strain/tear over the years and he shouldn't play next week.
Now this is a thread that i would expect on the ego -centric, wank session that is redandwhiteonline.com...

"Bloods Code" as such would be more in tune with say a gash on the head or perhaps playing on after tapping your kneecap back into place. Not sure if the code would apply to a possible serious knee injury in Round 2 of a season.
