    Drip fed into senior footy

Was thinking today that the Swans get it pretty much right with the youngsters they bring in. With the exception of Thewlis (and perhaps Scott "Emergency" McGlone, and maybe Moore but I hope not), few players get one or two games then disappear. Other clubs seem to have improved also but, as much as some of us would love to see every kid get a season under his belt before he starts shaving, the Swans seemto get it right. I expect Schmidt to play more games than he misses this season, and be another Dempster, McVeigh or Malceski who all seemed to be made wait before being given the chance.

Yeah ROK, I know what you mean but I still think we should expose some of the kids a fraction longer (however not necessarily younger). I get the feeling this will naturally occur this year due injuries as the midfield group gets a little older. I also think the lessons learnt from LRT and Crouch will demand that players stop playing through injuries to the detriment of their body. From the sounds of it, Crouch could have easily run himself out of a career.

Alas, under this 'hold the youngsters back' system, Mick will be the last 250 gamer for the club

Doesn't necessarily follow. Things go in cycles and there will come a time when the Swans are 'regrouping' or suffer a worse injury run than in recent years and youngsters will get thrown to the lions more quickly.

And I reckon one A Goodes is on track at the moment to hit 250 games at the very least - quite probably significantly more if he continues to be as durable as in recent seasons.

If someone's good enough, they'll be there.

It's hard to imagine telling a 20yo Judd that he'll have to serve his time in the two's.
The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.

Yes - I stand corrected, Goodes is definitely on track for between 250-300. Next closest chance would be Leo Barry or Crouch then Jude and McVeigh - although the latter two are long shots. The rest of our list are most unlikely to make 250 games at the club, unless DOK takes his shot next year and sticks.

They don't seem to like playing their youngsters,Moore for example, but I know in Moore's place they stitched him up for three more years at the end of last season. They must have got wind of the other clubs after his signature.I don't know about the others but one would presume they have been given options as well.

Don't forget that we have not 'bottomed out' for a while and have not had the opportunity to draft many ready made footballers. Our last 'mature' player probably was Vogels, and I dont see how he deserves to have played any more games than he already has.
We demand rigidly defined areas of doubt and uncertainty.
