    24,000!!??!! - Move to Telstra for 2007!

It was extremely disappointing to see only 24,000 fit into the SCG yesterday. Looking around the ground, there were not too many seats left and apparently MMM radio station said the game was "Sold Out".

There is no doubt that if the game was played at Telstra, the crowd would have been 35,000+.

With the redevelopment of the SCG underway, the AFL and Swans should pull some strings and have all SCG games in 07 moved to Telstra Stadium.

I thought the capacity *should* be 31,000 with the redevelopment going on so that means about 5 or 6 thousand members didn't turn up. Not sure where they would have fitted but I presume that's why the game was officially "sold out" as there were no tickets left for the public.

I agree, the Swans need to somehow push for some extra games at Telstra - maybe not all 11 but at least a 50/50 split.

It appears new supporters who are not signed up members will not be able to see any Swans games at the SCG for 2 years and that's not good for the club or the AFL in building the supporter base.

The Essendon clash in June shapes as one game which should probably be moved if the Bombers continue their current form. They would attract 45,000 easily.

Interesting you say that. In theory it would be all & well to do this but the SCG Trust would seriously have a baby about it.

Yes, our crowds are going to be down this year as a result of the redevelopments, but I don't see much the AFL or club can do about it.

OldRoyboys & I were musing that the atmosphere at the SCG is actually better than at Homebush. When you consider that most of the people who attended yesterday were club members & committed supporters, that means that there were up to 40000 nOObs at the Eagles game. So no wonder the atmosphere was so crap that night & some of the newer people were wanting to do the wave in the 2nd quarter that night.

There didnt appear to be many empty seats yesterday at a sell out that resulted in a crowd of just under 25,000. Not good enough for the bigger games scheduled at the SCG this year (Essendon, maybe Freo). Also, not sure what's happening with the lighting for Saturday night games but the lack of a lighting tower over on the section being redeveloped doesnt look promising for SCG night games.

JF, I hear your view but as you and I both know from sitting with 3000 others at games in the early 90s and the crap atmosphere that presented we want to see the Swans and AFL grow as much as possible in Sydney.

Although you put it as "noobs" which I think is very harsh, we need to have these first timers coming along and watching our great game and club as much as possible. It is the only way to grow the popularity of the game and club in Sydney and NSW. I never want the Swans to become an exclusive 'click' of supporters but a club that embracers all followers, all support and actively encourages the game's growth across Sydney and the state.

The game wasn't officially sold out. My friends rocked up at 12:30 only to realise that they had accidentally purchased Tickets for the Melbourne game, not the Lions game. The only tickets that they could get for the day were the $76.00 ones, and they were only single seats.

It's very annoying to hear that and it must concern the club that radio stations and/or other media have again stated that a Swans game in Sydney has sold out when in fact it hasnt. You wonder how many people may have considered coming on the day to buy tickets but changed their mind on hearing that it had sold out.

To be honest IMO I don't think that would have a great deal of influence on the final crowd number. However, to only have a capacity around 27 odd thousand is not good enough.

As someone said sitting next to me said in jest yesterday after the crowd figure was announced..."We could have fitted that many into North Sydney Oval!"

I think the members not filling up has a lot to do with club cards not being permitted in the members. RIDICULOUS I know it would be crowded but the more the merrier right?

Do you mean 2007 or 2008? I think you would have a lot of angry members if all of this year's SCG games were transferred to Telstra.

I am not sure if there would be a "lot" of angry members, having said that though I cannot see all games being shifted.

Perhaps the Essendon game, Carlton and Richmond games should be moved to Telstra and possibly Hawthorn depending on their form and ladder position.

I was at those games too, they were tough and although I loved being able to choose where I sat in the members it wasn't that much fun- it was DAMN lonely, I am a big supporter of more people coming to the games , just as long as the said Noobs are no where near me I am fine, anyone who talks anything other than footy at the footy is risking life/limbs

                          Not me, I'd LOVE it.

                          They should move there permanently.

Agree Dave. I'd happily move all games to TS. Just walking beneath the O'Reilly stand yesterday reminded me of what a cr ap venue the SCG is. I too was miffed by the crowd figure.

The club has now established a second home. We should seriously hold a gun to the SCGT head next time our contract is up, and extract ACB-like $$$ from these shower of @@@@s.

They have treated us with disdain for 25 years, and are scrwing the club financially this year all for the addition of a couple of thousand extra seats.

Level the whole @@@@hole and start again.

SCG looks more and more like a "provincial" ground and it's showing its age. Sydney and the club deserve better.
