WOW! This will be an interesting test case for the AFL.

Selwood called Headland's daughter a sl*& during the game, outraging the Docker and causing him to be restrained by his trainer after the game. He went on to allegedly make a death threat after the game to Selwood!

Both Headland and Selwood might have to face the tribunal if Selwood did indeed provoke Headland with remarks about his daughter. Reminds me of the 2006 FIFA World Cup Final but uglier.

West Coast are a club that appears to be severely lacking in discipline and any sense of what's right, wrong, appropraite or inappropriate. Its players seem to think that they can do and say as they please with impunition.

If I recall correctly, after last years GF there were some postings on RWO suggesting that some football journos were appalled by the behaviour of some of the West Coast players after winning the GF. Nothing much appears to have changed.

If somebody calls a 9yo a sl.., you'd just give them a WTF look, wouldn't you? Not saying you'd be happy, but the notion is so stupid you'd just think, WTF.

If Headland happens to have an older step-daughter or something, disregard above, but I doubt this is the case. A man who would put a huge tattoo of a teenage step-daughter on his arm would open a whole new can of worms and issues to discuss.

Headland's daughter is 6 years old, and her face is tattooed on Headland's arm. I've heard a few variations of the so-called slur, and I'll reserve my judgment until some facts arise.

Well if I had a child and someone smart arsed football player made a comment like Selwoods I'd be pretty pissed off too. However, what did perhaps Headland say to upset Selwood ? still What has calling a child such things got to do with football, ? - what makes these neanderthals tick? agree with Cruiser - footballers or in some cases elite sportsman don't seem to have to be accountable for anything they say or do.
I still think though that WC have had free reign for so long that they dont care what they say or do, who they say or do it to, or what the consequences are - they are the Eagles, their flying high (on a number of substances it seems) and are not accountable to anyone. The mighty will one day fall.

It's a pretty disgusting comment from Selwood about a young girl, but personal sledging is not unusual from what I hear - the reaction from Headland was though.

This sort of stuff goes on regularly and sometimes, it hits a raw nerve with the intended recipient. Michael Long/Damian Monkhorst was the landmark case. I believe Montgomery from Port Adelaide was ridiculed for his distasteful remarks to Adam Ramanauskas a couple of seasons back re: his cancer.

Glenn McGrath found himself embroiled with Ricrdo Sarwan in a more famous sledge about his wife after he had disgustingly rubbished Sarwan.

IMO, if you are the instigator of such low verbal attacks, you should suffer the wrath that follows.

Headland has got to take it on the chin and get over it,FFS its on the footy field and my belief is what goes on in play stays on the field.If i reacted ever time some one vilified me racially/religiously or personally i would be in a punch up ever time i played soccer.Get over it you pussy.

Would you say the same thing if the slur was against your kids or wife? I don't have a problem with sledging per se, just keep it away from family, they have nothing to do with it.
