Whitnall better not ask him because his family problems will be brought up and another punch-up might occur.

The tribunal heard Selwood had not been reported at any level in his career, and had charity interests including abused children.
Yes, that sounds like a young man who intentionally would make untoward comments about six year olds...

Unlike Hothead Headland, up for his sixth tribunal appearance in two years!

So what - you will find a vast number of players, good record or otherwise, do charity work, so Selwood is not alone there, so the sob "oh he's such a good boy and does so much for charity" palaver doesnt wash. The thing is he said something which pushed Headlands buttons - and he ADMITTED he made a statement, and maintains that he didnt know that the picture was of a 6 yearold - yet it was still derogatory towards women in general (but thats Ok of course according to the AFL!)- he is trying to make out he's the victim here when if HE had of kept his trap shut in the first place, none of this would have happened!
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

The thing I find strange is that some of you think it is unusual for players to make rude comments on the field. The point of sledging is to push the other player's buttons.

The big fuss is that it was alleged he made comments of a paedophilic nature and he has been tried in the media and public on that basis. That appears not the case now given testimonies and that it is unlikely he would make comments about young children like that if he works with them.

His comment that he slept with a woman who looks like the tattoo on Headland's arm is hardly a disgusting or derogatory comment about women in general. It's not a particularly unusual comment and not really beyond the bounds of what you hear in a variety of circumstances.

According to the tribunal, Adam Selwood was guilty of "exceptional and compelling circumstances of provocation". He was found not gulity of "insulting language". So what was the "exceptional and compelling circumstances of provocation"? Well according to Headland it was as he stated at the tribunal.

Just because Selwood has been involved in charities for children doesn't mean he can't or wouldn't say those things. He was in the heat of battle, and he probably said those comments before he even thought about them. Now that is a more likely story. No-one is saying it was intentional. Why else would he have commented to Peter Bell "Yes, I think I have" when Bell said to him that he had stepped over the line?

No one knows what happened, but we know that you (like some others) will just believe Selwood is guilty, Headland is right in every way, because Selwood is West Coast. Amazingly enough, the WC supporters on BF seem nearly right when they say that Sydney fans (some of them anyway) harbour a deep-seated grudge.

We all know there that there is sledging and then there is sledging and none of us are that naive to think otherwise. Yes Selwood pushed Headlands buttons, but to the point that Headland was going to kill him indicates to me that it was really a low blow. Now we all know that Headland is no angel, but geez the way they keep trying to paint Selwood as a saint when you consider the original words (what ever their meaning or intention) came from his mouth is just ridiculous.

So you would rather believe Des Headland MADE UP the following exchange.....

                      "I @@@@@@ her last night"
"That's my 6 year old daughter"
                      "She's a slut, I @@@@@@ her last night"

Boy, that's some imagination! Selwood, if he had guts (which he doesn't), would then take him to court if that was the case.

And, did I see things, or did Selwood get away with eye gouging while wrestling with Headland?

Headland's testimony at the tribunal wasn't consistent. The comments about his response mentioning his daughter have more than one version, some mentioning her age, some not. His recollection of events could easily have been confused, as I already commented above.

Further to NMW's comments, it is possible that Headland thought he heard Selwood say something that Selwood didn't actually say. Indeed, I think that the only way to interpret the tribunal's actions is that they reached this conclusion.

I am firmly of the belief that everyone is entitled to an assumption of innocence until it is clearly demonstrated otherwise. That is the courtesy I would like provided to me - do others not think they are entitled to it as well.

As far as I am concerned, there are enough real reasons to pile dirt on the Weagles without assuming that one of the apparent "nice" guys said something quite indefensible when there is no corroboration that he did.

But we all make our own choices as to what we believe or not - including whether to believe the better or worse of people, especially those we don't actually know.

Well as I said previously - had "Mr Nice Guy" kept his mouth shut in the first place, then Headland wouldnt have retaliated - so therefore none of this would have happened. I know that is simplifying the matter, but thats how it all started.

Yes, but you are suggesting that footballers shouldn't open their mouths to sledge each other, however they do. As the testimony shows, they'd been giving each other lip all game.
