Yeah, like I said I think sledging is tacky. Making personal remarks is particularly tacky. Like Roos commented in his article, it can work in some cases, but not when it's just blatantly insulting. Unfortunately there is a bit of a meathead culture that sledging is normal and that tends to translate into insults and crudeness for many blokes.

I have little doubt what Selwood said was crude. The best point Roos made in his article is that if it's not acceptable in society, it's not acceptable in sport (paraphrasing). I do think that this incident (as with the racial abuse incidents) has been given so much publicity that players might think twice about how they sledge.
If body language is anything to go by, Selwood looked contrite after the tribunal while Headland seemed happily relieved. It was poorly handled all round.Comment

Shaw's article is pretty good.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

Further to NMW's comments, it is possible that Headland thought he heard Selwood say something that Selwood didn't actually say. Indeed, I think that the only way to interpret the tribunal's actions is that they reached this conclusion.
I am firmly of the belief that everyone is entitled to an assumption of innocence until it is clearly demonstrated otherwise. That is the courtesy I would like provided to me - do others not think they are entitled to it as well.
As far as I am concerned, there are enough real reasons to pile dirt on the Weagles without assuming that one of the apparent "nice" guys said something quite indefensible when there is no corroboration that he did.
But we all make our own choices as to what we believe or not - including whether to believe the better or worse of people, especially those we don't actually know.
You can't have a decision on one hand that finds Headland guilty of striking having his penalty removed due to extreme provocation and then have the provocateur not guilty of his alleged provocation. If you simply base your opinions on the tribunal's decisions then you must be of the opinion that Selwood never said a word and Headland never struck him. You don't have to swear an oath in the tribunal, and you are free to lie your arse off without reprisal. Daniel Chick is a good example of that.Comment

Easily 3 Brownlow Votes on today's performance. Not only for his great display, but I reckon the umps would have a bit of sympathy for him anyway. Good to see.Comment

Poetic justice has been served. It seems Selwood had a rather quite day (probably due to guilt) whilst Headland was inspiring. Enough said.Comment
