No intention of getting Foxtel - pay to watch ads?!
We have been sold down the river by the AFL this year.
I still love watching the red and white despite the occasions when they are replaced by the Keystone Kops. I'm just not as desperate as before 2005.
I now watch other games more - I feel I'm learning more about the game when I watch without bias.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

True for a lot of programs, but they are shorter than FTA generally.

There are no ads during AFL on Foxtel however, which does make the coverage a lot more enjoyable than FTA.

Each to their own though, but Pay TV is here to stay, AFL still has the strongest FTA presence of all domestic sports.

I must have looked at the wrong TV guide, but why let facts ruin a good whinge?

              Yep.

I can pull things out of my arse like "they promised when the Swans relocated....." but that's really just being said in case Today Tonight are having a slow day and happen to read RWO and make a BS story out of it.

PAY TV may be here to stay, but you would think that the games they televise, the games people are PAYING to see, should be the ones which are being played in the state in which pay Tv would be televising them in.

Also, it has to be fair across the board.
You can't have Colliwobble fans not having to go to their games because they are on FTA every week.

It's another variable that the AFL will have to throw in when they do the fixture.

BUT, I would suggest that with the huge amounts recently being negotiated for FTA TV rights, that Pay TV is not quite the adopted child of the AFL quite yet....

                2) With the draw being done before the deal was finalised (who would televise what) we miss out on seeing the early games on FTA, which means under the new agreement we get to see 7 less Swans games televised in Melb than in the past.
That is correct goswannies in relation to our Sunday games but will amost certainly change next year when the TV stations and AFL can work together regarding best mixes etc.

At present Victoria as a whole do not get any live FTA on a Sunday due to the C7 game being a delayed telecast from Melbourne. Foxtel have the early game to take into account their exclusive twlight game on a Sunday evening.

That atleast gives FTA a live game into Melbourne on a Sunday which is what alot of people are complaining about at present.

You can bet your last dollar that next year we will be scheduled to play a number of Vic teams on a Sunday starting at 2.10pm which will be beamed back into Melbourne live. Foxtel will then retain their early game at 1.00pm, with the exclusive 5.00pm twlight to follow.

The first one I missed because I was in Surfers Paradise and it wasn't televised.

The next week I was driving home from Surfers.

Last week it was in Sydney and not televised.

So I get to see Spida in Swans colours for the first time, and our new players etc.

Sort of lost a fair bit of interest not being able to see the team play, and I've decided to pretty much just concede that I am just not going to be a passionate supporter as I have been in previous years.

I normally would travel to every Melbourne based game, but this year we have only planned the Kangaroos game.

I wonder how many other supporters there are out there who are going down the same road?

This thread is really depressing. Sure hope things improve for the Victorian fans soon.

It's interesting hearing how the Premiership has diluted some of the passion for some fans. Footy can be strange. What do they say? You can love footy but it won't love you back? You spend years (or sometimes generations) striving for a goal, but when you achieve it you realise that your life hasn't really changed all that much.

I had so many impressions of what I thought being the Premiers would mean. But in the end all it meant was a day when the world stopped, when suddenly everyone who has ever bled red and white found themselves drawn together as never before. But then very quickly that moment was over and you were back to square one trying to win it all over again. I can understand how this realisation might leave some feeling a bit less motivated the second time around.

Personally I've become more passionate. I found myself seeking out online forums for the first time, just to keep in contact with other Swans fans. But I'll admit I certainly spent a good part of 2006 lapping it all up and not caring so much about how we went.

A friend of mine is a Wobbles supporter.

Which is really sad - for him and me.

After 1990 he lost a lot of interest in footy.

I was there for the big games when the Swans beat the Pies and I rubbed it in and he got @@@@ty about it, but he stopped going to the games etc.

We still go up to Sydney once a year for a game, except not for the next 2 years because he's living in Ireland, but football was never really the same for him again.

The saddest thing was that he didn't et to go to the GF and see them win.
Something I remind him of constantly, which isn't very nice, but it serves him right for supporting the Magpies.....

Totally agree Tuco for me that day is as clear as yesterday in my mind (a quarter viewed every luchtime helps ).Have become much more analytical and observant rather than a romper stomper approach to footy.I cant really beleive that some supporters could lose their interest in the boys just because they cant watch on telly. I live in country Vic without foxtel and last weekend v Lions no radio coverage was hanging on crosses to the scg for score updates felt just like the late 70's. When it comes to the Red and White absence only makes the heart and mind grow fonder.

You're living with your status quo.

For some of us, we are living with 1/2 of what we had, so in effect it's been taken from us.

Well, I had my Saturday night.

Turned on the TV and watched 1/2 of Before The Game.

                            The Football started.

Underwhelming, I got a bad game I suppose.
Near the end of the 1st quarter, I contemplate ringing the Chinese food place to see where our dinner is.
                            Then it arrives.
I eat lots of prawn crackers while my lovely wife sorts out the rest of the food so I can continue watching the game.

                            @nd quarter starts.
Game is pissing me off a bit, so I contemplate ravaging previously mentioned wife, but before serious though can be given to this idea, my phone rings.

It's a friend offering me a free ticket to the Paul Stanley show at the Palais theatre, but I had to leave RIGHT THEN.

I look at the scores, kiss my wife and leave.

Miss the first 4 songs because i was a bit late.
Rest of the show was pretty good.

That drummer who apparently was also in Supernova was really really good.
The guitarist looked a bit retarded as he was putting WAY too much emotion into his solos etc.

they played some obscure songs, but too many Kiss songs for my liking, which I have seen played before.

                            Show ends, I come home.
                            Ravage my wife.
                            Ask who won the footy.
She says she fell asleep and doesn't know.
                            I go to sleep.
I wake up at 10am this morning (it was a particularly draining ravaging)
I turn on the Sunday show, and watch the scroll banner at the bottom of the screen.
                            I see the Swans lose.
I am happy I didn't watch the game.
