But isn't that the point? Given our game plan, all these guys you mention do effectively play a midfield role for us - they start attacks, they provide the link out of defence, they do work at the stoppages & they are a significant source of our inside 50s - isn't that what midfielders do?

      Mickey O .....the only non-midfielder.

But even then occasionally he gets caught up in play on the wing or HB as he is heading to the bench and shows his fantastic(silky) skills.

        Super analysis ROK.

I think it is to Roos' credit that he has taken our obvious weakness - a midfield of average skill levels and turned it into a strength. Of course our midfield is as courageous, committed, and disciplined as any; but compare it to the last few premiership midfields and I believe you would struggle to substitute more than one or two Swans into their lists.

Also the idea of an attacking defense is hard to counter, as forwards are not naturally mindful of their opponent. Thus giving the defender time and space to be creative.

Now if we lose the next 6 I'll blame ROK for revealing our gameplan!

I agreewith ROK, and I think it all stems back to the 2nd evolution of 'the flood' when Rodney Eade started to talk about a 'midfield flood' in order to attempt to stop the ball getting to the opposition forwards, rather than simply clogging up the forward line.

The thread and insight pretty much sums up the obvious in terms of where the team generates most of its run from. Regardless, I am very impressed with the analysis and just wonder who the bloody hell has kidnapped ROK and is now using his login. Not even one negative remark about Roos???

If you watched the Bulldogs/Tigers game last night it was very obvious, with the white dominating the Doggies jumpers, that the Bulldogs do a heck of a lot of flooding. They had an incredible number of white jumpers back. They then ran it out hard to a player who ran hard and wide to the wing. Not a lot different to how he coached us.
