    I Hate Collingwood

I just thought we needed another Pie-bashing thread. But also I have had a very disturbing idea today...

    The Scenario:
MCC doesnt change their minds about having a game played at the MCG each week of the finals. At some stage during the finals, we are drawn to host Collingwood. They are the top ranked Victorian side. The game has to be played at the MCG. The AFL have their hands tied (by whom I'm not going to suggest).

    The result:
The MCC are happy, the AFL are happy, and Eddie fringin' Macguire carries on about how wonderfully fair the entire competition is all week in the media.

I certainly hope it doesnt come to this. This would be an absolute disaster.

Everyone hates Collingwood. They are a paracitic leach on the comp.

But I have a quiet confidence that the MCG rule will be applied to all interstate sides EXCEPT Sydney. We are worth too much, and can bring in an extra million ch 10 viewers come grand final time (even prelim final time). Expect finals to be banked if the Swans are the MCC rule target that week.

Remember money is the motivation for McChins and the AFL. Nothing else. And we have the key to Fort knox.

Yeah but if the Swans are exempted from the MCC rule, Eddie's whinging may get worse, and I think that the MCC wouldn't like to miss out on a Swans-Collingwood prelim (for example) because of the strong Swans support in Melbourne + the huge Magpie army that would turn up. The other non-Vic clubs could also complain, if they are disadvantaged by the rule. If the AFL were to do this for the Swans they should do it for all interstate teams. I know that the Sydney market is so much bigger, but it wouldn't be fair if the Swans got a home final while the Crows for example were denied the chance to play their final at Football Park.

The TV ratings would be just as strong in Sydney wherever the Swans play in the finals.

A final at Homebush would be great - I'd love to go, but it would be sweeter to beat the Pies in Melbourne
(Melbourne RWOers: I bet this would make up for only getting 5 games )

Anyway, it will be interesting to see what decision the AFL takes if the Swans do earn the right to host a final.

If Sydney won back to back flags like Brisbane have in the next couple of years, you could add another $50m p.a. to the next TV rights deal easy.

I'm not saying Sydney would do it, but the AFL wouldnt want a chance jeopodised by Sydney loosing an earnt final. Remember Brisbane havent finished minor premiers, yet have gone into the GF via two home finals.

IMO, Channel 10 have more clout with the AFL than the MCC.

Barry, WTF are you on about.

The rule is set in concrete. If all games are scheduled to be played interstate, then the LOWEST ranking interstate team will forfeit the home ground advantage and play in Melbourne.

It isn't up to the AFL, McChins or anybody else.

Does a Victorian club have to play at the MCG? Or just a game?
            For example:

            1 Brisbane
            2 Port
            3 West Coast
            4 Kangaroos
            5 Sydney
            6 Adelaide
            7 Fremantle
            8 Collingwood

            Brisbane V Kangaroos at Gabba
Port V West Coast at AAMI
            Sydney V Collingwood at SCG
            Adelaide V Fremantle at MCG

It may seem absurd, but it would perserve the integrity of the system, (as much as possible).

Sorry, but you are deluding yourself by thinking that. You KNOW they'd never get away with it. You KNOW they wouldn't be game to try.

Beleive it Charlie. The AFL has two options to do it before they even have to think of the breaking the MCG rule:
                1) Bank a final. They have said they wont, but thats a easy decision to change at no cost.
                2) Schedule someone else at the G. (The "lowest" final at the G is not set in stone (or even contract)).

If Sydney miss out on a home final, it will put the code back 10 years, because the Rugby focused media will revert to calling it the VFL again. This is a very sensitive year for the AFL up against the resurgent league and rugby wc.

Eddie says it is so unfair for Collingwood to have to travel, so he has pressured the AFL into playing all Pies 2004+ games in Nathan Buckley's backyard. He said it's also horribly unfair on the Pies if the other team turns up, because there's a chance they might not win. The AFL have agreed, and decided that they will tell whoever is playing the Pies that the game is in NB's backyard, but the real match will take place on the front lawn of Eddie's mansion. Thus they will not turn up and forfeit the game. This ensures that the junior magpies (PA est 1870; Collingwood est 1892) another well-earned premiership ...
                  Furthermore Collingwood DEMANDS:
                  1. No travelling AT ALL. GET IT!!! None whatsoever...
                  2. No one may wear black or white or any combination containing black or white. $5^7* off StKilda and Port...
                  3. NATHAN BUCKLEY must NOT wear RED and WHITE on Fox Footy!!!
"Davis...Davis has kicked 2...he snaps from 40...dont tell me, dont tell me, hes kicked a goal....unbelievable stuff from Nick Davis, can you believe this, he's kicked 3 final quarter goals and Swans are within 3 points..."

The AFL run the risk of the code becomming the laughing staock in the Sydney Media over this fiasco. And rightley so. Who ever negotiated this deal with the MCC should be fired. The situation must be fixed other wise it just is not fair.

Well maybe the sydney media should get of their rugger arses and start writing about the AFL a bit more. Sling enough mud and it will stick.

edit: I couldn't give a rat's fat about what the sydney media thinks anyway. They show no credibility to the best winter sport in this country. I'm sure at this point in time the AFL would only laugh, shake their heads, and mumble "sydney wankers" (meaning the media not the gp) if the syd media were to have a go at the AFL

Here is another reason why so many people hate Magpies in Melbourne, just read this article for example:

All this media gloating makes me sick sometimes!

But the fact is that they mobilize opinion in Sydney, and as long as they veiw AFL as unfair and provincial (which it is ) then the issue will not be politizised in sydney and the media will continue to be appathetic and the codes growth will continue to be hamperd by years , probabley decades !
