"There's not much pressure on the first shot [tomorrow night], but I'll go back and send it through, and apparently all the boys are going to kick straight because I'm on the field [this week]."

You've just got to practise and hopefully the first player to line up for a set shot on the weekend slots it through,'' Roos said.

I'm gonna feel sick for the first person who has a set shot on the weekend, hopefully it'll be Davis but with the way things are going at the moment it'll probably be McVeigh.

Mmmm, I wonder if Kirky will send him back to the seconds for that.

we need davis badly. he tops off our forward line, which has been struggling a little of late. to win the flag this year there is no doubt he has to be in the team. his set shot kicking is right up there with williams and didak.

lets hope he doesnt get lazy

Did you have to mention Lloyd, the worlds biggest penalty puller ?

I'm glad Nick is back, he will be expected to slot the goals through, so hope he does.. Mind you if he doesnt it could always be considered that he is just doing "the team thing" as no one else is getting goals either, so he just wanted to blend in.

                    From the Herald Sun:

Tomorrow night Davis adds some desperately needed polish in front of goal. His record since joining the Swans in 2003 is 116.55, a conversion rate of 67.8 per cent, just behind the most accurate in the game today Matthew Lloyd, who converts at 68.8 per cent. The best conversion rate in history belongs to Tony Lockett at 70 per cent.

I noticed even the commentators said on Wednesday that Lloyd was not a good shot for goal on the run, so it seems that he has to pull the penalty just to get a kick. (I know its mean - but I'm in one mother of a bad mood this arvo!)

Considering Nicky D isn't a key forward and isn't getting too many marks straight in front of goals (and having more than his fair share of shots from 50+) 67.8 is a pretty impressive hit rate.
Roos is a big basketball fan, I'm suprised that he hasn't compared Davo in all this chatter to an elite outside shooter in basketball; one of the oldest cliches in basketball is along the lines of "a shooter just keeps on shooting" 'cause even if they've missed their last 10 they believe the next 10 are going to go in- the elite are the guys where the next 10 do go in. Davo has always come across as someone with that level of confidence and that level of skill.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time
