    Friday Focus: Swans firing blanks

Everything is going wrong in front of goal. So how are the Sydney Swans 2-2?

The teams we've beaten have been worserer than us.

A lot of focus on inaccurate kicking but the stats tell a another story as well, our delivery into the F50 hasn't been that good and opposing teams are doing better at shutting our forward 50 down (Adelaide have flooded for a while, WC never did and have started to very effectively in the last 6 or so months, etc.). Given Danihers comments at the end of their game last week expect to see a lot of it on Sat. night.

With inaccurate kicking comes a reluctance to take shots from outside or on 50 as well(we need to park Mal permanently at half forward methinks) further compounding our problems going forward (where's Willo......).

But this season, the Swans have converted just 21.2 per cent of their inside 50s, the worst conversion rate of any side in the competition.
If we can't double that this week the entire team should be dropped!

The article says our midfield isn't to blame becuase of our high inside 50 rate, but where is the stat about "effective delivery inside 50"??

Kicking to Barry Hall deep in the pockets won't lead to more goals. Wake up Swans!

Things is that if you're going to miss, you might as well do it from outside 50 as from 30m out.

The Swans have the players capable of at least making the distance from outside the arc, especially on the run, and it seems like a simple - maybe too simplistic? - option to take more shots from there if you're having trouble finding a forward in the clear when they're surrounded by 15 opponents.

You only need one or two to go through the big sticks before the opposition realises that it has to protect a larger area rather than just stack the 50m arc, and once they get drawn out a little to cover the region 60-70m out, space should open up inside the 50 too.

The Swans seemed to do this a bit against Richmond and Brisbane, with Leo, Craig Bolton and Nick Malceski running forward hard and kicking longish goals. But it's not something we've seen much of against the two better teams we've played, both of which ultra-flooded.

I don't think throwing the ball on the boot and floating it into the F50 should count as an effective Inside 50...

As Nick Davis said in the herald-sun today

"Every shot is a different shot, and if the first one doesn't go through, I won't be passing off the second or third or fourth, don't worry about that."
Thats the thinking every forward should have i reckon.

I thought it was because we were slightly more betterer.

If that's the case we are doing ok then, just imagine if we convert 50% we will be flying.

If we'd been missing hard shots I'd agree, but the ones we missed against Adelaide were almost all shots that should have been converted at least 80% of the time.
