Going out on a limb for Benny

OK kids... I know I'm going to get slayed for even suggesting this, but I reckon Benny had a pretty good game on Saturday night and has been playing pretty well.

We all know that Benny is our favourite whipping boy, but you've got to be fair on the guy. He shut down Johnstone who is a player capable of causing more than a few headaches and he was far from the worst last weekend against Adelaide.

Anyone going to back me up on this one?

    Already noted on the night...

I'm getting there. I think Benny did a pretty good job on Saturday night, I am a big Travis Johnstone fan and Mr Mathews did a great job of driving him bonkers.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

I wish the umps would ping him for holding the ball more. Whenever he gets it he runs TOWARD a tackler to force a ball up.

Ping him like they did in the WC qualifying final last year, and he wont last long.

Benny is doing pretty good ATM and he is also scoring pretty well in the Coca-Cola fantasy teams.
Now this is a thread that i would expect on the ego -centric, wank session that is redandwhiteonline.com...

I played the TV coverage last night. At one point (in the last quarter I think), he received the ball whilst facing towards our defensive 50. He then spent 4 or 5 seconds facing that direction (he was under no pressure) before turning (somewhat reluctantly it appeared) and delivering it in a forward direction.

Watching it, I wasn't convinced that he actually knew which way we were kicking, but maybe that's because he was so focussed on his stopper role. I thought he played better the week before, but I guess some stopping jobs are invisible.
Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way you'll be a mile away and he'll be shoeless.

I've had my say on Benn Mathews from time to time, but in 2005 he was in good form and was one of many reasons why we got to the GF. Last year he was ordinary, but this year he seems to be staring to get back to that 2005 form, if he does it can only be a good thing for us.

Yes, Ben shut down the potentially dangerous Johnstone. Wore him like a glove.

Lmao, some really good ball-ups Benny is the only player who gets to claim that as one of his stats.

Is anyone recording the head-to-head stoppages caused count with Crouch & Benny???? That would make for some interesting analysis....

Both Benny & Crouch put the saddle on their opponents on Saturday night. The effectively shut down two of their better players (Yze & Johnstone) but still managed to get a few stats themselves.

I do love the way Crouchy gets dirty when his opponent gets a stat... takes it as a personal afront and you can see he's not happy... lol...
