This is your big chance!
How so? That is essentially the same squad as this week against the stronger Belconnen and they weren't able to crack it for a win. Next week the reserves might get one of Vogels or Moore back (assuming one will still travel as an emergency and on basis of Monty returning).

Does anyone know if next week's game is on Saturday or Sunday?

Sunday 2pm so that probably means the 23rd man might have to make a quick trip up the highway if he doesn't play.

        Ryan Brabazon

This is a heads up on Ryan Brabazon from the 2005 season just prior to him being drafted to Sydney....it is an extract from the Claremont Football Club site.

"Claremont’s dynamic ruck-rover Ryan Brabazon has capped an outstanding season by winning the Jack Clarke Medal as the fairest-and-best player in the WAFL colts competition.
He polled 46 votes and finished five ahead of lively Swan Districts rover Jesse Gribble, with Perth’s dashing James Thompson (35 votes) in third place.

Finishing fourth with 29 votes was powerful Claremont midfielder Fred Johnson, a recruit from Wyndham Crocs in the club’s Kimberley zone.

The 18-year-old Brabazon also has won the WAFL 200 Club coaches award for the best player in the competition. Votes for this award are cast by all colts coaches.

And to complete his triumphs, Brabazon was chosen in the 2005 WAFL colts team of the year. The four other Claremont players picked in this side are defenders Ian Rowe, Alan Toovey and Preston O’Keefe and emerging ruckman Dan Atkinson. Toovey was named vice-captain.

Brabazon, curly and fair-haired, has been a standout performer this year. His deft ball-handling skills, quick acceleration and wonderful disposal with either foot have made him a joy to watch.

Peel Thunder had six players chosen in the side, with East Fremantle and East Perth each having three representatives. Each of the five other clubs had one representative.

Other Claremont players who have shone this season and must have gone close to selection in the team of the year include Danny Griffith and Ian Richardson.

Claremont’s effort equalled the club’s performance of 2004 when Beau Wilkes, Andrew Ruck, Harry O’Brien, Andrew Clarke and Seve Mills were picked in the colts team of the year.

Brabazon hails from the North Albany club and his success in the Jack Clarke Medal follows that of Tigers ruckman Andrew Ruck in 2004. Ruck is another Albany recruit, from the Royals club.

The Tigers have a remarkable record in the Jack Clarke Medal, with Brabazon becoming the 14th Claremont player to win the award since 1960."

Thanks PB for the rundown on Brabazon - I hope to see him in the ones before season's end, but I doubt it will happen with our conservative approach to promoting youngsters.
And thanks ROK Lobster for the match report - to pick up all that while riding herd on three 8 year olds is an extraordinary achievement. It's good to get good news from somewhere.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

They have played in 7 of the last 8 grand finals I think, and won most of the ones the Swans have not.
            cheers.

Just on Jesse White, he broke some fingers at training last week and is out for a couple of weeks. Didn't play in Canberra on the Weekend.

Both him and DOK were out.

"Monty [Buchanan] is probably the one who is a real chance to play next week, and Bevo has now played two games in the seconds so it's more on his fitness and whether he feels comfortable with his fitness levels, so he's half a chance."

I could hear the groans of RWO-ers without even turning on my computer, when I read that quote. I don't want to add too much fuel to the anti-Bevan fire, b/c it can get a little dogmatic when I reckon one thing is pretty obvious: whether we win a flag this year will not depend (one way or t'other) on how many games Bevan plays.

Nonetheless, I might respectfully suggest to Roosy and the match committee: It might not just depend on "whether he feels comfortable with his fitness levels", but also... y'know... on whether he is actually better than the bloke we're going to leave out in his favour.

You have never made a better statement. One unfit club favourite in the team in Crouch is enough thank you.

Friggin hell - when are they going to try some of the other guys instead of just going back to the same old hacks! Bevan started when he was 19 - what's wrong with trying others who surely can't all be worse. Why not Brabazon or Laidlaw or one of those guys!

"His deft ball-handling skills, quick acceleration and wonderful disposal with either foot have made him a joy to watch. " - now that would something nice to see in the seniors!
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

"[T]here are things that matter more and he's reading and thinking about them: heaven, reincarnation. Life and death are the only things that are truly a matter of life and death. Not football."

Right on NMW. What gets me about Roosey, and I dont see myself as a Roos knocker, is that he lauded the USA recruiting guru who looked for gems in the pile rather than the touted junior stars because of their poor draft position being a top side, yet doesn't seem to want to take the risk of playing them. SAadly he has to start playing some of these guys.

Martin Pike made a very petinent point regarding Brisbane. He said the reason they have bounced back so quickly is because they still have 12 Premiership players in the team that gives them the backbone to support the young players coming through, and this gives those young players the confidence to back themselves on the ground.

Take a good hard look Swans, given we modelled ourselves on the Lions.
