    Apec Meeting in Sydney

I read in a newspaper last week that rugby games being played on the weekend of APEC (7-9th September) will be a security problem and therefore may have to be played interstate. In particular it was stated that Aussie Stadium and Telstra Stadium the main worry. Now if the Swans make the finals and finish either 1st (not going to happen) 2nd (unlikely) 5th or 6th (quite possible) and qualify for a home final it will be interesting to see what happens. Any others heard anything of this? It didn't mention anything about the Swans in the article.

That Friday is also going to be a one off public holiday for Sydney, so I imagine heaps of people will be out of the city for the long weekend. So even beyond the security risk, I can see that weekend having issues attracting a crowd.

Well isn't it only the CBD are mostly affected, so the game moves to Homebush may have some logistics problem with the NRL.

I think that they are wanting to try and shut down as much of the rail and road network - basically they want everyone out of Sydney and surrounds if possible.. Those of us who work at Darling Harbour may even be stopped from entering the area from Town Hall downwards from about the Wednesday (so we have heard) to the convention centre due to security. So we will know in the next month or so where we stand. I'm keen to know if all business will be compensated as to their loss of trade in that period if they are made to close.

Send a bill for compensation to Hon J.Howard MP, his brillant idea to stage it in Sydney
Going to be nothing short of a nightmare and if Sydney are forced to miss the home ground avantage because of this, will be less impressed about this whole stuff up.

You would hope that if it comes to pass that either the AFL or NRL are to play finals in Sydney that weekend that the people of the city would be given some consideration. Perhaps if the government is petitioned now and made to provide a blueprint of what might happen then we would all feel a bit more confident (In know - tell her she's dreamin!).

If all else fails - all footy fans converge in protest on the convention centre - we would put the greenies and other protest groups to shame! Because nothing will stop us from getting to the footy.

Most 'international' cities fall over themselves trying to host an event like APEC

That is true and I guess it was our turn - keen to see what zanny shirt they all have to wear for the group photo.

Hmmm the maybe the Chesty Bond t-shirt, or some Mambo design

I wouldn't say International cities are "falling over" to host APEC, I mean who really wants every protest group marching through the streets against everything under the sun.

Reg Mombasa (Mr Mambo) has flatly refused to help the government (well he used to be like that - unless business is a bit slow he may reconsider) - so I doubt it would be a mambo shirt - although I reckon that would be pretty funny.

A sleeveless Footy jumper with each club represented. (how many are coming out here again?) and if there are more than 16 - the remainder can put on the field and goal umpires coloured attire.

There's more reason to hate Dubya if they give him the Eagles jersey.
