Can't bear to see the game, but did the Norf player have prior opportunity before not getting his kick away? If not then it is not a free....just the ball spilling free in the tackle.

As much opportunity as Fosdike or Bolton had.

Yeah I agree with all of that.

It was a definite free against Micky too.

Sure, but it was a bloody ripper mark nevertheless!! How's an old bloke like Mick expected to get up there without a little assistance?

Some other teams use other ways of getting high.

Exactly! The game as a spectacle will suffer. I cant believe the almost pious shoulder shrugging acceptance on here from some people. So black and white. There's another shade called grey.

More telling than a lack of frees was that moment in the final quarter when Sydney were really getting some momentum, after two goals. A Roos player received a free kick near the centre but was given play on advantage AFTER the ump blew his whistle. Swans players just stood there while the Roos player ran inside 50. Luckily, it was a behind but it stopped our momentum in its tracks for at least 5 minutes.

I remember thinking at the time "that's it, we're stuffed now".

I think that the 50/50 calls that went against us, were all given in the Kangaroos fwd 50 and got them a couple of free shots on goal. Whereas the 50/50 calls that went our way, were in our defensive half so not quite as "rewarding". That hurt us.

I also think that when we fumbled the ball in the goal square when it was three against one and the Kangas cleared, (Can't recall who exactly), was also pretty costly.

But without a doubt, the biggest thing that cost us was letting those @@@@ers kick seven goals to our one in the first quarter!

That made no difference to our momentum as the ball was already going to be in the Roos' hands.

                        Shocking advantage decision though.

I disagree. While the Roos would have had a kick, it would have been to a contested pack (more than likely), allowing Sydney to keep up the pressure (and in turn, the momentum).

In this case, they just ran staright into their forward 50 unopposed. I felt they looked rattled and started to feel that the game was slipping through their fingers. Momentum killer if ever there was one.

Bear in mind, all of these situations are a moot point - they could have went any which way but it's a point nonetheless.

But they kicked a point, hence we had the ball and could rebound straight away thus snatching back momentum. Given the kick missed I think it was actually a benefit for us, but we failed to take advantage.
