These young kids have got to learn that at the Swans you only get a slim window of opportunity to make an impression - while Schmidt has improved he certainly hasn't demanded a place in the side, not before Monty.
    Good point....

For mind, Buchanan is a walk up start in our team. He's a quality player that gives us a lot of run and mobility. Yeah he makes a few clanger, but who doesn't. He's taken Schmidt's spot. Fair enough.

As for Moore, hasn't impressed me to date. But haven't seen Bevan either so I'll probably keep out of this one!

I liked Jack's good 10 minutes last week but surely he hasn't demanded selection over Schmidt or Moore yet??

It's interesting that most posters here seem to think that Roos had made his selections this week to spite various players and reward the undeserving. That suggests that he wants us to lose this week. That beggard belief.

This is a big week for Paul Roos - it's the first time in his career that he is coaching against his protege. If he has an ego (and several here think it's huge) then surely he'll want to win. If he is outcoached, it will be noted by everyone and much of the credit for the Swans' Premiership will shift to Lyon. Maybe that's fair but it's unlikely that Roos will be aiming for that.

Either, as Footyhead has posted on BigFooty Roos has never had a clue and got lucky, or he is making his selections for a purpose. Or he's just letting the season drift along, playing his favourites and waiting for a miracle. It'll be interesting to see what unfolds.

As they stated on Fox Teams last night, there may be better games played this weekend but this is by far the most fascinating from a tactical point of view.

Well, Jack isn't taking Schmidt's place I think it's fair to say. May not be much between Moore & Jack, but Jack played with exactly the sort of intensity & hunger I'd hope all our new players would play with - not sure if I've seen that same sort of endeavour from Moore.

I don't dispute Monty is an automatic selection. However, I see it more as him coming in at Moore's expense, particularly given Buchanan has been named the past two weeks but then been replaced by Moore off the emergency list. And I think Moore's game is reasonably similar to Buchanan's (or could be so) so they make reasonable substitutes.

My beef is more with Bevan vs Schmidt vs McVeigh. To me Schmidt gave us something that neither McVeigh or Bevan seems able to, which is someone who can take the odd turn at centre bounces and sometimes get one away cleanly. And while Schmidt hasn't been getting a huge amount of the ball, his disposal is generally sound, he seems to have a coolish head and decent vision. Plus he can kick goals.

Bevan is likely to come in in a defensive role, something McVeigh has been trying to do and doing badly. While we all may have our own ideas about the value that McVeigh might bring in a different role, if you're talking like-for-like swap, Bevan for McVeigh seems more valid.

So what pissed me off was not so much Bevan coming in (though I'm not convinced that he has sufficient runs on the board to warrant a relatively short, non-starring stint in the twos) as Schmidt going out.

Exactly.... And McVeigh wins hands down.

I do get somewhat frustrated with people that keep saying give Schmidt or Moore a run instead of McVeigh. True he isn't on fire at the moment, but with the oppurtunities that Moore & Schmidt have had, albeit limited ones, they've hardley outplayed or been a bigger contributor than McVeigh....

How about we giv McVeigh the oppurtunities we're so willing to thrust upon these guys?

The opportunity to play once every 12 games? There are some on here that would agree with you....

Moore needs match practice as he has played very little footy in the last couple of weeks. Will do him good to get the cobwebs out in the two's,I wonder if he is kicking himself for resigning with the Swannies when there were some good options on the table for him at the end of last season.
As for Phillips,I must admit I was quite shocked when he was rookie drafted as I had seen him in the TAC cup and he seemed lacking in a few aspects.I must admit he has obviously worked very hard in Sydney but I could never understand the "hysteria"around him that was written in RWO.The again,we are all entitled to our opinions.
