    More WCE arrogance?

    Article

Basically the Eagles have been granted permission to wear the Western Australian State of Origin jumper from 1977 for the Heritage round in July.

At the moment I am unable to decide whether this is another display of WCE arrogance or an admission that they actually have no heritage. I am surprised that the AFL granted permission as I am sure that any approach to wear the "Big V" by a Melbourne based club would be met with a resounding NO!

I think it is a good idea. Good on them.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

But there is no Victorian club that emerged out of the clubs in the state to join the AFL

Point taken, I can see what they are trying to achieve, and agree there is a link between the two. I just feel that a State of Origin jumper is for players who have earned the right to represent their state. A mark of respect for those who have achieved recognition as one of the State's best players is to not dilute it's "value". As club jumpers are for players who represent their club, state jumpers are for players who represent the state.

Didn't Adelaide do something similar with the SA state jumper a few years ago?

I don't really see a problem with this at all. Adelaide have used a state jumper once and have displayed the SANFL logo and the colours of each SANFL team, considering the fact the Crows were a SANFL composite team.

The Eagles have represented themselves as "West Coast" since their inception and they're a WAFL composite team. If they wanted to be arrogant they could've had "We're The Champions, We Can Do Anything We Want!" printed on their jersey.
I only support one team: The SYDNEY SWANS!!!!! :adore

Don't be silly! That's the planned jumper for 2008! With "Freo Sucks" written across the back.
